Saw some shops still selling them.
Also heard users not happy with the Mi A2 product range. Like got some serious quality issues with the battery or fingerprint reader hardware..

Means two things.
First is this S2 model has got some serious quality issues which they can't fix.
Second is the next S2 model, say the redmi S3 is on the way here.

Redmi S2 has reached the end of its lifecycle already, thus being discontinued. It's normal for budget phones to have a faster lifecycle cycle especially for Chinese phones as competition is intense between Chinese brands. They release phone models faster in order to catch up with the competition, and now Xiaomi has released a few models similar to the S2 such as the Mi A2 Lite (Redmi 6 Pro), Mi 8 Lite, Redmi 6.

OPPO is more extreme in fast replacement too in just year, from the inital OPPO A3s to OPPO AX5 and to the latest OPPO AX7.
