Just bumping an old Q for the DBS rep:

Do the promotions like the current 5% rebate on all Paywave purchases still apply to Apple Pay paywave transactions?

that right, because a large bulk of their revenue comes from their hardware. the margin is something that is unmatched for in the industry.

i think the only place with Ads is the Beats Radio. Correct me if I am wrong.

They used to have iAds but don't know what happened to that...

Wasn't there an article that said NTUC linkpoints can be earned?

"First, there is the sheer convenience. I found I could still use the NTUC Plus! reward card to collect loyalty points at FairPrice supermarkets while paying with Apple Pay."

http://www.straitstimes.com/tech/apple-pay-is-the-way-to-pay-if-youre-an-iphone-user

Or are the linkpoints collected in the bill?

Hi manualvin,

In order to earn Linkpoints when using Apple Pay, you will have to present your physical card to the cashier, as Apple Pay does not have the function for that.

To avoid been accidentally charged twice, do inform the cashier that you are presenting your physical card to get the Linkpoints, and not to pay.

Likewise, in the article that you shared:

"First, there is the sheer convenience. I found I could still use the NTUC Plus! reward card to collect loyalty points at FairPrice supermarkets while paying with Apple Pay."

The writer had to use a physical card to earn the points.

Hope this clarifies.

Do let us know if you have any further queries.

apple wallet has a section that we can store bar codes of rewards card... can we store the ntuc member card's bar code in apple wallet and scan the bar code, then pay by apple pay?
i remember long time ago ntuc cashier scan the member card's bar codes, but now they have to swipe the ntuc card to collect rebates/linkpoints.

if the self checkout kiosk can modify the software to allow scanning bar codes of ntuc card, then we should be able to store our ntuc member card in apple wallet?

No it'll not work on Trains and Buses
oops deleted my post as I found the answer with some googling

Would have been cool, but I suppose Apple Pay wouldn't be able to beat the speed of using regular SMRT smartcards.

maybe in the initial launch there might have some issue but London subway is using Apple Pay if I am not wrong . I guess London have more people than Singapore , right ?

You can use Apple Pay to pay as you go on bus, Tube, tram, DLR, London Overground, TfL Rail, Emirates Air Line, River Bus and most National Rail services in London.

thumbprint verification would slow you down though, as opposed to the literal tap-n-go speed of regular SMRT-issued smartcards. I'm actually using a DBS NETS Flashpay enabled CC, so I was wondering if I would have been able to scan that into the phone and use that for public transport.

Apple Pay only captures your Visa/MasterCard, and not the nets flashpay of your card. So no.

Unless Singapore releases cc/dc payments on public transport like what London did, or if Apple integrates with nets (which is extremely unlikely).

oh well. Not a huge deal, Apple Pay still works great with regular NFC payment terminals. Just paid for lunch at Subway by tapping on my phone. Not much faster than using a Paywave/Paypass card, but it's so cool

thanks mod.

question:
go esso, DBS esso card got the best discount, i think 17.5%
(dunno what on site or what ever....)

if apple pay, need to show physcial card?
or need to show that virtual card in the "wallet" to allow the cashier to manually input the onsite discount?

i don't think the system is so smart to know that your CC is a DBS ESSO.

Answer:
sunday, i pump petrol, i let you all know.

Scenario:

say u go one restaurant, say swenson,
got this promo, use OCBC card, got 20% onsite.

u go to cashier, use OCBC card, (i think cashier manually minus 20%) machine should not be able to attempt to charge $100, detect OCBC card, auto adjust amount to $80, charge card.

Question:
so apple pay, just show the virtual OCBC card in wallet?

assuming yes, cashier adjust amount, (you fast hand fast leg change the default card to HSBC - got 10% rebate in dinning - example only)

tap the phone
$100 - 20% - 10% = $72 = 28% discount?

sounds possible?

answer:
i go test out the system then tell you all next time

I thought the Singapore government like to be 1st world society. They need to adopt this to be 1st . Ask IDA to think lesser and move with the times . stop resisting otherwise it will be 2nd world government
