Silverstone Fortress FTZ01

A compact mITX case of aluminium-SECC build for true PC gaming enthusiasts, standing at just 14 litres yet is still capable of holding long double slotted gaming cards up to 13".

"SilverStone created another new line called the Fortress Z* to cater to enthusiasts with affinity for all metal design in slim form factor cases, thus the FTZ01 was born. Similar to RVZ01, the FTZ01 utilizes a PCI-E riser and custom designed fans to accommodate the biggest consumer graphics card on the market with superb air cooling performance and the ability to support liquid cooling.**"

* FT = ForTress, RV = RaVen and so forth...
** Silverstone TD03-SLIM

The case can be either used horizontally or vertically with the bundled case stands.

What Silverstone says... (click!)

■ Classic exterior built from aluminum unibody frame
■ Supports graphics card up to 13 inches
■ Mini-ITX motherboard & SFX/SFX-L PSU compatible
■ Maximum performance in slim form factor with support for liquid cooling
■ Positive air pressure design for excellent cooling/quietness and dust-prevention
■ Fits in nearly any environment with horizontal or vertical orientation

To be continued...

macClipper is back support!:s12:
Thanks for the support! :)

how is compare to its raven 02?
i want to know too :s12:
For the time being, no experience with the newer mITX brethren RVZ02 to compare. However since you guys are so interested in the RVZ02, I have passed the message on... perhaps wait a while and see how it goes.

Is this available at SLS?
Should be, this model actually debuted last year.

I'm not fond of the RVZ01 frame, because it is big volume-wise and visual-wise (14 litres) yet still need to use SFX PSU.

SPCR has measured both RVZ01 and RVZ02 and found RVZ02 to have better GPU cooling.

However RVZ02 has two drawbacks - 1) It cannot mount 3.5" HDD without irreversible modification and 2) It cannot use 9.5mm thickness 2.5" HDD without irreversible modification either, the latter I suspect it to be a design oversight.

Packaging
As the FTZ01 is meant to be a very compact yet gaming capable system, this case is meant for the more experienced system builders and less so for first timers.

Unboxing
Recommended tools - being so compact, this is not a tool-free case. A bright torchlight is highly recommended for full dis-assembly.

Bundled Accessories
as shown, includes 3 x magnetic dust meshes, case stands etc...

Heheh, a forum search earlier did show a few existing FTZ01 owners.

Anyway had mentioned earlier about this model's debut last year... well, I don't have much control over what or when I get sent stuff.

... this model actually debuted last year.

Hope you are enjoying the case, perhaps you can share with everyone here your personal experience too. :)

Benchmark Reviews Silver Tachometer Award Logo (Small)
+ Premium-feel throughout
+ Unique interior layout
+ Hot components seem thermally separated
+ Lots of aluminum!
+ Fits full-size GPUs
+ Decent performance
+ Sophisticated looks
+ Two included slim fans, fan splitter

Cons:
– Needs some tool-less 2.5″ drive trays…
– Could use some more tie-downs or cable routing channels around the motherboard
– SFX PSU required; only a few currently on the market
Other Thoughts:
– Somebody needs to make some aluminum feet / an aluminum stand for this case!

Performance: 8.25
Appearance: 9.25
Construction: 9.50
Functionality: 8.50
Value: 8.25
Final Score: 8.75 out of 10.
