Hi everyone

Can I bring up an older post regarding forwards and backwards compatibility:

1. AMD does not officially support Bulldozer CPU on AM3 mainboards correct? Although the major manufacturers are trying to hack that

2. AM3+ mainboard can use Phenom II AM3 processors???

To snipes14:

I didn't want to buy Intel because of the higher price plus;

1. Only 16 PCIe lanes and only when you disable the 3rd party USB 3 controller

2. PCIe 3 and native USB 3 might be out by next year; I would only buy something modern and cutting edge when these 2 new standards are finalized

3. My 1st DIY desktop build, will give AMD's Phenom II a chance to show me its power!!

And yes, everyone tells me it's not a wise choice

If you think intel is higher price, the upcoming bulldozer might disappointing you. I expect the pricing of their 8 cores to be around 2600 and 2600K range.

AMD knows the price of Intel i7-2600k & BD actual performance.
We don't know about the performance of BD, but if AMD position their pricing of BD directly against SB that means the performance for the amount you paid is similar to Intel's lineup.

Which wont be cheap anyway. Want performance have to pay, be it AMD or intel. :D

U decided to go with a 2600K?

Definitely that's the minimum that I will go for, given my usage. But waiting for Computex see how, hopefully got some official benchmarks at least. If the performance delta vis-a-vis i7-2600K is significant (i.e. 20%), then I will wait for the hard launch. Else, go for i7-2600K.

But then like you said, if they are priced similarly then logically they will also perform similarly. I don't think AMD is running a charity to offer better performance for same price.

BTW haylui you just went EDMW on XS forum. Lol. I think they might be wondering what's the chili sauce you are talking about. :D

I honestly don't think it's THAT expensive, considering the performance that it provides. But yes, competition would be welcome.

Hey Ragnarok

Your points make sense. If BD is able to match Sandybridge or beat it, we can expect the same or more expensive prices.

However, if the price difference is not that drastic in the event of BD defeating the i7, I think BD would still be a better buy since the 990FX chipset offers 32 lanes of PCIe for the optimal crossfire/SLI?

My 2 cents hehz

BTW, did you trade off your 6970 Ragnarok or still holding to it =) I can trade a GTX 580 with you haha

And while we're talking on BD Mark 1....

Anyone heard any rumors on BD Mark 2??

All I hope is that they offer PCIe 3.0 and native USB 3 like what Intel is doing with Sandybridge extreme and ivy bridge

The thing is, can we commit to SLI or CFX?

A few of the members here can, but most can't. It's always good to consider more when buying, but sometime, there are just things we won't be using at all even though we think we will use! Hehe.

Haven trade... think i will just stick to HD6970...its still quite a powerful card. :D

How much u got your GTX580? So fast wanna change?

Im quite confident 8130P will perform better than a 2600K. It has to.

I got it at 700 SGD from a fellow HWZ forumer...

I just hope the card is worth the price. The guy said that he could clock it stably beyond the MSI GTX 580 lightning speeds without changing the voltage...

Nah, won't change so fast heh heh..

But want to change CPU by end next year

Whether they're optimizing or still troubleshooting, it's been a long painful wait for all of us.

I went to buy a brand new Phenom II X6 bundle because I really cannot take it already...

Damn sian.... At this rate, AMD Bulldozer Enhanced will probably release at the same time as Ivy Bridge or its Extreme version...

To snipes 14...200% agree with you

Provided they don't delay again otherwise we will
be waiting for AMD Bulldozer Enhanced.
