Performance indicators can't be reveal until the product is shipped

I haven't really seen the preliminary performance indicators as yet

Supposedly it's better? :D At the heart is the ARM Cortex A9 Dual Core (1GHz) vs MIPS32® 74K Core (600 MHz)
Good to see dual core consumer routers coming to the market now that faster fiber plans are the norm. Hope Asus does a good job with their firmware.

Impressive... Finally a consumer-based product company is spending efforts to understand the needs and to deliver products which serve its functions well and also aesthetically pleasing to install.

Just wondering. Did some top mgmt, esp. related to product development change in recent years? The style and direction seems to have altered course from the ASUS I used to know and loyally support (many years ago until their product quality sucks at premium price and freaking poor post-sales support).

ASUS WL-330NUL

ASUS Releases the WL-330NUL — the World’s Smallest Router

Helps customers stay connected wherever they go with Ethernet, Wi-Fi and access point modes plus multi-OS support, all in a pocket-sized USB device

Most compact all-in-one router

The WL-330NUL has been engineered to offer fully-fledged router functionality in a miniaturized form factor. ASUS RP-N53

ASUS today announced the dual-band RP-N53 Wi-Fi range extender, which uses strong internal antennas to increase wireless networking coverage. It works in concurrent 2.4GHz and 5GHz at up to 600Mbit/s alongside routers from ASUS and other brands, overcoming obstacles to transmission to eliminate reception dead zones. Customers get stable internet access in bigger and multi-floor environments, including areas such garages, basements, backyards, and roofs. With its 3.5mm audio jack, the RP-N53 can be used to stream music wirelessly from mobile devices, allowing music enjoyment wherever Wi-Fi is available.

Twice the networking flexibility with concurrent dual-band

The RP-N53 offers wireless performance with up to 300 Mbit/s on the 2.4 GHz band and an additional 300 Mbit/s via 5 GHz. Since the two frequencies work in tandem, total bandwidth reaches 600 Mbit/s, with 2.4 GHz suitable to web browsing and social networking, and the clearer 5 GHz band to HD streaming and online gaming. Multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) antennas within the RP-N53 ensure stable performance in both frequencies. Customers can quickly change operating bands using the web-based browser.

Effortless one-press setup

To pair the RP-N53 with routers, customers only need to press the WPS button, and setup is complete. WPS (wireless protected setup) is compatible with routers from ASUS and all other brands, plus a wide range of client devices such as PCs, smartphones, tablets, game consoles, and smart TVs.

Wireless music streaming

Customers can easily enjoy music anywhere at home with the RP-N53, as it includes a 3.5mm audio jack. It connects to speakers and becomes part of home entertainment or hi-fi systems, delivering music content wirelessly from source devices such as router-connected USB storage. Audio files stream from storage to the RP-N53, which in turn interacts with sound hardware to deliver audio playback.

Signal strength indicators and touch sensor

The RP-N53 features LED signal strength indicators on its front, with one dedicated to the 2.4GHz band and one to 5GHz. Customers can gauge reception strength at any given location, helping place the RP-N53 in areas where performance is best. The LED lights double as an aesthetic addition, and can be turned on and off with one touch thanks to a sensor embedded in the RP-N53.

ASUS RT-AC56U

ASUS today announced the RT-AC56U concurrent dual-band router, which supports new-generation 802.11ac Wi-Fi. It uses a dual-core 800MHz processor and 256MB onboard DDR3 memory to ensure strong performance in 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Powerful hardware translates into 867Mbit/s on 5GHz and 300Mbit/s via 2.4GHz, or a total of 1167Mbit/s as the two frequencies can work simultaneously.

ASUS AiRadar beamforming technology enhances mid to long range connectivity

Exclusive ASUS AiRadar technology intelligently strengthens connections based on the number of devices linked to the RT-AC56U and their position relative to the router. High-powered transmission amplification and beam packaging optimize signal stability and delivery in any direction. Compared to similar routers that do not feature ASUS AiRadar, the RT-AC56U extends Wi-Fi coverage by up to 150%, making it a good choice for larger homes and offices.

USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports for server functionality and fast sharing

The RT-AC56U includes one USB 3.0 port and one USB 2.0 port, the former working up to ten times faster than the latter. Customers can easily turn the router into a file, printer, or 3G/4G server thanks to its USB connectivity, and share data and resources for greater efficiency. USB 3.0 delivers high speed file sharing and HD content streaming from router-connected devices. Bundled Download Master software allows for downloads to continue directly to connected USB storage from the RT-AC56U even when all associated PCs are powered off. Non-stop downloads save customers time, especially with ever-larger high definition multimedia files.

User-friendly interface and designed for the cloud

The ASUS AiCloud app works with the RT-AC56U, allowing customers to access the router from wherever internet is available using Android and iOS smart devices. The free app supports mobile sharing, streaming, and syncing of content across different devices. The RT-AC56U uses the latest version of the ASUSWRT firmware, which enables 30-second setup with no disc media required. ASUSWRT offers access to the two concurrent transmission bands with their combined 1167Mbit/s bandwidth, as well as various router management functions that are all presented in an intuitive and easy to understand manner.

Re-posting here as well for awareness

So with the new line up, AC68U > AC66U > AC56U?
Plus it looks like the newer routers cannot be placed flat on the table.

More likely it's AC68U > AC56U > AC66U :D due to the fact that it's running on Broadcom BCM4708 ARM® dual-core Cortex A9 800MHz

ASUS RT-AC66U/ASUS RT-N66U is running Broadcom BCM4706 single core 600 MHz

I have a good feeling that the ASUS RT-AC68U is using the Broadcom BCM4709 ARM® dual-core Cortex A9 1GHz :D

Another thing to take note it's the addition of beamforming for ASUS RT-AC68U and ASUS-AC56U, both ASUS RT-N66U and ASUS RT-AC66U have yet to have beamforming implemented.

As for why the newer ASUS routers are designed for standing mode, it's because standing mode helps to better dissipated heat via all the available air vents over sitting down mode.
