How do I get to openet? Email viewqwest and request the contact of the person Incharge of my case at openet?

That's one way to do it. The other is to go to opennet's contact us page and write the description inside and they will get back to you.

contemplating the ASUS router. since both zhone and the asus routers has to be on at the same time, what additional benefits are we getting with the Asus router besides stronger Wifi signals? i'm mostly on LAN anyway.

Have Asus rectify the IPv6 issue with VQ ? Last known to me is that their routers don't work with VQ's static IPv6 assignment.
IIRC only the RT-AC68U has the IPv6 fix.

However subscribers have reported that static IPv6 on RMerlin firmware (Asuswrt-Merlin - custom firmware for Asus routers | Merlin's Tower) works great, and it’s available for most Asus routers :)

Haven’t tested it myself personally though. Let us know if it works :D

For the LAN, just pick any /64 subnet from your assigned /48

E.g. 2001:d98:XXXX::/48 assignment, just use 2001:d98:XXXX:YYYY::/64 (where YYYY is a hex number of your choice)

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the reply.

I have a 66U, with merlin's 3.0.0.4.374.33.

Already had a segment of IPv6.

Will test it out, and report back.

BTW, pls pardon me if this had been asked b4, can the 2426's GE1 be in bridge mode and GE2,3 & 4 and WIFI in routed mode ?

Quick question on IPv6,

Is it possible to have it working on a wireless bridge? I did some reading, and came across some comments that bridge implementations on DD-WRT involve some kinda NAT magic to work, and only works for IPv4 as it was never explicitly implemented for IPv6?

Is that true then, that DD-WRT will not be able to forward IPv6 traffic through a wireless bridge?

No, VQ's static IPv6 still doesn't work with Merlin's latest 3.0.0.4.374.34 firmware for RT-N66U.

Didn't try on my AC-68U as I don't think it is ready for deployment yet (to replace my RT-N66U). There's also no IPv6 firewall on Asus' latest .306 AC-68U firmware and Merlin's (for AC-68U) is still based on the old .205 code.

its not -52 its 0.52 for 1310nm
0.47 for 1490mn
and 0.40 fir 1550nm
You have a GPON meter? Does it do readings in dBm? Signal readings should be taken as dBm, I don't know what unit you're reporting it in :/

Did you set a /64 LAN or /48 LAN? If you're using /48 it will probably not work (untested) and also SLAAC via router-advert will not work too.

No worries - but do ensure the following:

(1) Set LAN prefix length to 64 (not 48) but use the /48 LAN prefix assigned by VQ

(If you set the full /48 the automatic address assignment will not work)

(2) Set the LAN IPv6 address to the first address in your LAN subnet, e.g. 2001:d98:XXXX::1 instead of just 2001:d98:XXXX::

Asus firmware does not validate the IPv6 address correctly and accepts ....:: which is invalid, only ....::1 is a valid IPv6 address.

:s22:

BTW, pls pardon me if this had been asked b4, can the 2426's GE1 be in bridge mode and GE2,3 & 4 and WIFI in routed mode ?

Sorry, it can't be done as that will require 2 WAN IPs. What you can do is log in to the Zhone at 192.168.1.1 (configure static IP on your PC and plug into any of the GE ports)

From there you can configure SSID and change the LAN IP address of the Zhone to something else (eg 192.168.1.2) so that it does not conflict with the Asus IP.

Then you can plug GE2/3/4 into the Asus LAN port and use it as an access point.

If your Asus is far away you will need to have 2 cables :)

Has anyone with Asus routers tried Tomato firmware? I have a feeling IPv6 may work on that one.

However Tomato doesn't have Hardware NAT unlike RMerlin, so speeds will be capped at 200Mbps+

Still not working (Asus RT-N66U with Merlin .34 firmware)

Tried all combinations ...

/64 and /48 LAN
LAN IPv6 address with and without 1 added at the end
Router Advertisement - Enabled and Disabled

Some combos show my iPhone 5S listed under router's IPv6 LAN Devices List but IPv6 test still fail.

None show my Client PC (Win 7) in the IPv6 LAN Devices List.

Strange. You did email NOC before to verify that IPv6 is enabled on your fibre right?

Had some reports that RMerlin did work for some users, though they've moved on to EdgeRouter or other platforms already :)
