There's a reason why a budget board is cheaper than a premium one. Cost-cutting using lower quality components. Cheap or good, pick either one.

If u r talking about Biostar & ECS Elitegroup, i would agree. but MSI are neither expensive or cheap. 3-4yrs cannot tahan?

I disagree. I believe the market has reached a point where mobo reliability is down to heng suay. Your fanciful Z87 ROG board with 99-phase power design with solid Jepun caps can have the same failure chance as the cheapo H61 Biostar board with electrolytic caps an uncle bochap-ly put together to surf internet

We've seen people with MPower seen sparks flying, people with ROG return to BL for consecutive RMAs, and families with budget boards happily chugging away

I asked before what's the mobo that provide the fastest boot up time and the answer i got was asrock that time.
But if let's say all the mobo abt the same in terms of reliability since this thread since to put it that way and asrock have fastest boot up time.
What's the benefit for choosing other board such as gigabyte/asus/msi?
I'm using MSI right now btw. Definitely not affiliated with asrock. Hahaha.

Cannot compare with old time pc...p2-p3 ppl only play simi RoTK, Starcraft or diablo...the gfx dun even need 6 pin power and only a small fan nia lol

Last time pc anyhow also 3k..QC much better ...the component they use also not as solid as last time

I dun favour any brand, just always go for best bang for bucks. IMO if u spend 1k and ur rig last u 3 years it's aready doing a good job. Some ppl just go SLS DIY without doing homework..end up get a rig with a mediocre psu and case with poor air flow..of cos their system up lorry faster

most of my MSI motherboard failed after 3yrs of usage. sudden death issue.

one fine day it just can't boot up even though i change ram/processor/psu.

gave up on MSI even though the distro is @ AMK accessible via my house.
Same.... always sudden death.....

I've had 2 MSI mobos, and 1 GPU (--> the twin frozr one in my profile) died on me. My personal 'luck' with MSI is bad, so I avoid them from now on.

My 'luck' with ASUs is holding strong though. ;)

Did you overclock your MSI R5850 Twin Frozr II?

I'm very familiar with that AMD Phenom II CPU + mobo ruckus at OCN (much of it instigated by xd_1771). Long story short: AMD CPUs use a lot of juice, especially when overclocked. Meanwhile, some mobo manufacturers, esp MSI, use cheap mosfets and small number of power phases. This results in some reports on mosfets blowing when PII X4 and PII X6 CPUs were overclocked, even when the boards are touted as overclocking boards.

Note: the issue does not seem to affect Intel boards of any recent generations since Nehalem or even Conroe/Penryn.
