Its only slightly faster than GTX780ti and 290x.........

Its better in terms of power consumption.

Exactly.

Its just a more efficient GTX 780Ti.

My advice is wait for the true GM200/GM210(whatever the name is) to be out which showcases the true prowess of the Maxwell architecture.

Remember this is just the 'mid range' version of Maxwell. But I must admit for a mid range Maxwell it is very good.

I think it will be some time since AMD gt nothing competitive for Nvidia to release it... Need some good competition.

Will gpus based on gm200/210 be coming anytime soon? otherwise the gtx 970 is looking so value-for-money!

never heard of the gm 200/210. Is it a ** model?

It's aimed at the hardcore gamers, meaning the gpus based on gm200 will be theoretically even more powerful than gtx 970/980.

For instance, The Titan II is supposed to be a gm200 gpu.

But i am not sure when they are coming out???

The pure-performance-at-all-cost days are long gone. You guys just need to accept it. Look at intel. Look at nvidia. Probably only amd is still stuck at the performance alley. Even then, they might join the rest of the industry sooner or later.

In any case, similar performance at lower power consumption is a notable achievement. If it performs better, it is a bonus.

I don't think it's a disappointment at all. Having a tdp of roughly a gtx 760and performing roughly a gtx 780ti, that's impressive stuff IMO.

Yeah man. A 5w led that can produce light as bright as a 20w fluorescent bulb is very efficient indeed.

It will never end if you're talking abt powerful. My take is, upgrade you gfx card every 3 to 5 years. If you replace annually, you won't find much difference.

Personally an upgrade is justifiable if it offers at least twice the performance of my existing parts.

Not if a card 30-50% more powerful comes out in a few months shortly at abit more

I cannot see how a card that is supposed to be on a lower tier than the 780ti and the 290x, perform better than them, and yet consume less power, be disappointing.

It wasn't planned to be a flagship ard to begin with, much like GTX 680 back then, mid range card. Disappointed for what?

well, the gtx970 looking more and more tempting to replace my 560ti

even though im not even taxing my 560ti in the first place,
i'm kinda intending to get a multi-monitor setup somewhere early next year

and the new tech/features on it does sound very appealing

HWZ review of the 980 is like upside down... their data don't match any other reviews anywhere else by reputable tech sites.
