Hi Guys,

I've recently purchased a Synology DS214+, and I'm thinking of setting up Link-Aggregation to utilize the dual ethernet ports on this NAS.

I read that I would require a switch that supports 802.3ad standard, however, I've recently purchased a AC87U, and at the back, port 1 and 2 are labelled as "Teaming ports", hence I wonder if i would still require a switch for my Synology NAS setup.

Would greatly appreciate any guru's help on this.

Thank you!

Just bought the ac87u.

Got a question. In new BTOs,the TP is in the utility box and the whole house has structured cabling done. I will be using the gigabit TP link Wdr4900 router to be placed inside the utility box run on wired connection to my AC87U placed at another area. My ac87u will be connected to one of the LAN ports in my home that is LAN/wired connected to the TP link Wdr4900 router. The AC87u will then be my wireless AP serving the wireless connection in the home while the tplink wdr4900 serves the LAN portion in the home.

Will this setup be good? Or will my asus ac87u be bottlenecked by the tp link router? Sorry I am not too knowledgeable in this area.

I assume it will not be because the tplink router is running on gigabit ethernet to the ac87u.

New BTOs got no choice but to have 2 routers because if I just put the ac87u in the utility box as the main router serving both LAN and wireless needs, the wireless connection will be bad because the utility box has a door and will always be closed thus affecting wireless coverage.

Or I should ditch my tplink wdr4900 and place the asus ac87u inside the utility box to provide LAN connection and get another wireless AP to complement the ac87u?

First option will be better?

Advice?

Any help on this?

NAT Loopback Issue ?

Hi,
I just bought AC87U last week but has problem with NAT looping after port forwarding is setup. Basically I could access my NAS directory and files via ftp from LAN but cannot download the files. On iphone ftp app, downloading will hang until the process is cancelled. On android app, downloading failed on timeout. I have upgraded firmware to 2769 but issue still remains. There was no such issue previously when I used TPLink router.

Btw, when I am on WAN, everything works fine, i.e. I can access and download files using iOS or android devices. That's why I think it could be due to NAT Loopback issue on AC87U.

Anyone has a solution to this ? Thanks.

Same issue. I can however access my asus via my public domain internally but not my NAS.

Guys. can recommend me a Easy to setup AC/dual bands extender to match with My AC87(M1 1Gbps) to use in my master bedroom which is very low on signal because of my glass door. I now using the TP link extender 300Mbps AV500 which is only single band.
forget to add. my room no Ethernet point , use mainly to connect 2 phones and a media player.

I think homeplug may be a better solution to wifi extender. Just my 2 cents.

Port Forwarding

I have my Synology NAS connects to AC87, setup two ports forwarding, port 110/587, the problem comes when sometimes in the home network, i cannot connect to these two ports eg. xxx.asuscomm.com (using the free DDNS), i can ping but just cannot connect, it works only when i disconnect the WIFI on my ipad or other devices and connect to 4G or public network, i am able to connect.
To workaround, i have to delete the ports and re-added back, then it works if i am in my home network.

Anyone encounter this?

Hope asus can release a better firmware fix for some of the problems.

I do not think the router support 802.3ad.

For link aggregation to work, it must be link aggregated end to end to achieve the speed throughput.

As a simple example, if you are transferring files from the PC to NAS via the switch, the PC must also be link aggregated. If not, you will not achieve the link aggregation benefits in terms of speed. What you gained though is link redundancy but this is seldom needed unless say one of your network cable broke which is highly unlikely.

I am speaking this from experience setting up link aggregation on my synology DS712+. In the end, yes I got the a Cisco managed switch and achieved that but my PC end is still not link aggregated so I was not able to achieve the speed potential.

Noticed something weird out from my two iPhone 5. One can only detect 5GHz while the other one only can detect 2.4GHz frequency. For my iPad mini retina at times can't receive any signal from 5GHz and auto switch to 2.4GHz.

Anyone using a HDD enclosure with multiple HDD inside to connect to the USB 3.0 port? Will the USB 3.0 port be able to detect multiple HDDs?

Just got my ASUS RT-AC87U router installed today. Should I update to latest firmware settings or is there a stable version I can update to?

Will be monitoring the heat as well.. 2 desktops, 2 laptops, 2 ipads, 4 iphones, and 1 internet tv connecting to it, hope it doesn't get ridiculously hot...
