Hi all,

Would need some help on recommendations on a gaming rig with a budget of $2500-3000 on the CPU and $400 on a 24" monitor.

Saw the "Building a rig thread" but I'm still noob about things hence would appreciate if anyone can assist me.

Can anyone recommend me a rig base on my budget? Will be mainly used for Battlefield 4 or any newer FPS game.

Budget for GFX card am looking at $500.

Would prefer not to go the overclock route as I'm fairly a noob at all these, will go the no fuss route as I suck at troubleshooting :(

Monitor wise, seems like HWZ favors the Dell monitors, any recommendations on a 24" monitor below $400?

Thank you guys in advance.

First step is on budget. Do not separate the budget to different components. An overall budget will allow you to allocate more budget on the components that you critically need.

Im assuming that you will need everything and the overall budget will be $3400 odd.

What a $3400 budget can get you.

MSI Z97 Gaming 5 + i5-4690k ~ $545
GSkills Ripjaws 1866mhz 2x4gb kit RED ~ $117
WD Blue 1tb ~ $67
Crucial mx100 256gb ~ $155
MSI GTX970 4gb Twin Frozr V Gaming x2 SLI ~ $1150
Superflower Leadex Gold 750w 80+ Fully Modular PSU ~ $179
Corsair Obsidian 450D ~ $169
LG DVD Drive ~ $21
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM ~ $115
Qnix QX2710 Evolution II SE 27inch 1440p A- PLS Panel ~ $279 (qoo10)
Ducky Shine 3 DK9008 ~ $155 (Xtreme Solution Promo)
Swans M10 2.1 Speakers ~ $109 (PC Themes)
Corsair H100i Hydro ~ $150

Total ~ $3211. Buy at tradepac. Unless stated, DIY.

Now the thing is you do not wanna overclock. Then if you want a regular PC with no overclocking needs and a single 1080P display.

MSI B85 G43 Gaming + i5-4460 ~ $374
GSkills Ripjaws 1600mhz 2x4gb kit RED ~ $115
WD Blue 1tb ~ $67
Crucial mx100 256gb ~ $155
MSI GTX970 4gb Twin Frozr V Gaming ~ $575
Superflower Leadex Gold 650w 80+ Fully Modular PSU ~ $149
Corsair Obsidian 450D ~ $169
LG DVD Drive ~ $21
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM ~ $115
Dell U2414H 23.8inch eIPS Panel ~ $335
Ducky Shine 3 DK9008 ~ $155 (Xtreme Solution Promo)
Swans M10 2.1 Speakers ~ $109 (PC Themes)

Total ~ $2339. Buy at tradepac, DIY.

Optional: Any air heatsink cooler of your choice for aesthetic purposes.

Hi bro thanks for your comment.

I guess the 2nd build should be what I'm looking for?

Will it be good enough for me to play battlefield 3 at max setting?

Speakers wise see what you really prefer, Swans m10 will be around $109. Go and audition it at cybermind.

If you want something better can try Swans m50. But will be slightly more ex.

As for headset, all this you have to head down and audition it yourself. Find something that suites your needs. And how it sounds like. None here can tell what your ear is hearing.

But for the start you may wanna search around for gaming headset that comes with a mic that might be handy for you.

Thanks bro! Both you and jian are my savior lol.

Any recommended person who can DIY my PC?

Will look out for Swan m10, Don't really need so good speakers as I game mostly with headset (For FPS games) . Speaker is mainly for Dota and drama hehe

Will I go wrong with a Razer headset?

I've also asked in the monitor clinic but maybe you can assist me on this as well.

What's the difference between all the monitors available?

Like the UltraSHARP and the PremierColor?

Also will 2415 be better than 2414h?

I notice all these monitors are running on 6 and 8 ms.
What happen to the 2ms monitors? I used to think that the lower the ms the better and I had a Samsung 24" monitor 3 years back for $300+ with 2ms.. Nowadays the MS is higher..

Regarding GFX card..
I notice most people recommend the GTX series of card.. What's the pros against the R290?

Back in those days, TN Panels were used in monitors to have the fastest response time. However, there was no IPS panel made at that point of time. Now most monitors are equipped with IPS panel, it has several advantages over TN Panels but on a slight slower side.

IPS (PLS for samsung) panels have good viewing angles, up to 125degrees viewing angle, it is good for people whom wanna watch movies and also important to some people whom wanna place their display somewhere else. Also good for people whom wanna watch movies while lying down.

Color reproduction is much better over TN. Anyway it doesnt mean that 2ms to 6ms screens you are able to catch it with your naked eyes. It is how fast the pixels changed from black to white. Most important is also your refreshing rates. So far only TN panels can go faster than 60hz which is good for gaming. The set back for using IPS panel is that they can barely go over 75hz.

If fast gaming monitor is what you need, then you might wanna go for 120/144hz TN Panel.

R9 290 and 290x have taken a dip in market. Due to the fact that it produces a lot of heat, and takes up a lot of power consumption.

Ever since the 970 came into picture, the 290 and 290x is totally not worth buying anymore.

My rig is settled. Thanks all for your input.

Am using..

Asus vanguard b85 w i7 4790
Kingston 8gb cl10 fury hyper x x2
Asus GTX 980 strix 4gb
Crucial mx100 512 ssd
WD 1TB blue
Seasonic 750mx

Monitor most prob 2414h or an 27" one.

Now I'm looking at speakers and headphone..

Speakers need not be god like, just for normal drama viewing and games like dota. Any recommendations? Budget up to a creative T40 range..

Headphone I'm noob, was previously using a creative one 3 years ago but the sponge spoil... Budget below $200. Should I look for stereo or 5.1?

How much like that?

IMO, slight overkill in rams due to model selected. 980 is overpriced for its performance. In fact, 2x 970 is slightly more ex than 1x 980 and yet performs better. Overkill in psu...

Since buy le, den nvm.. haha...

For speakers, can consider Swans M10 at $110. If not, Creative T3 at $179 during Sitex 2014.

As for headsets, u need head down to try. Maybe can audition at x-treme solutions, #02-32 or Techdrome, lvl 5 at sls.

16gb for ram really overkill ah? =\
Yeah 2x 970 is better IMO but I'm considering doing a 2x 980 in the future :x

I have a 4 years old T3 now but the pod is faulty, am thinking of replacing it or changing the pod again (3rd one already!), but seems like its still the best in the business for its price?

Swans M10 I'm gonna have a look at it.

I guess I will have to head down to SLS for the headset...
Or should I go to STEREO? Would a gaming headset be more suitable for gaming or can I substitute it for a non-gaming one like those BOSE kind?

Thanks bro!
