If this build pass our test then should be release within 1 to 2 weeks.

Sorry for the delay.

Best regard,
JK

Hi JK:

Does it have any fixes for the Static IP issue in AP mode and 5GHZ stability improvements?

thanks

I am using m1 1G internet and ac87 router. But when I do a speed test just beside the router on 5Ghz , I only get 100mbps. Why this ac87 router behave this way?.. Seems this router not that good.

Can't be router issue. My iPhone 6 on 5GHz inside my bedroom already can fetch almost 200mbps.

For my iPhone 6, speedtest app shows 6ms, between 200-230Mbps. Running on 2679 firmware

I'm on SH 200Mbps and on my wired desktop, I'm getting 205Mbps.

On my iPhone 6 Plus, I'm getting 202Mbps in the same room via 5GHz.

This is a very good router and the 5GHz performance is on par with the wire, for my case. No regret getting it.

Next firmware seems like taking longer than current version. Longer time consume will have higher expectation from it.

beta and no release notes? Hmm hmm hmm...

Tested the new FW drop 2784. 87U is connected to a Gigabit switch. DHCP router is connected to the same Gigabit switch.

1. Issue on 87U losing static IP in AP mode still exists. Loaded FW 2784 and upon completion, system asked for a hard reboot. Disconnected power to 87U unit for 5mins, reconnected power, booted up, can't find 87U using previous static IP address. Again, the 87U was assigned to an IP that is outside of DHCP range but within the same subnet mask. Using router DHCP list, 87U has automatically picked up an IP address that is "within" DHCP range. Loaded defaults, rebooted, set to AP mode, assigned static IP (no conflicts on the network) and repeated the same steps, 87U still decides to automatically picks its own DHCP IP. Rubbish.

2. IP connectivity issues on 5GHz still persists. Established connection from laptop to 87U using 5GHz band. Full bars and connected at 300Mbps (2x2). Able to ping gateway in CMD PRMPT. Able to access any web pages successfully. Let system idle for 3-4mins. Repeated CMD PRMPT ping to gateway and destination host unreachable. Funny thing is laptop remains connected to 87U with full bars at 300Mbps. Reopened IE and tried to goto any site, fails. Disconnected from 5Ghz band and reconnected to 2.4GHz band. Repeated the same steps, no IP connectivity loss. What a load of crap.

disappointed.

I have updated to 2784.

I have not tested the wireless-N on 5Ghz. However I have 2 devices (2x2) connected to it at 866mbps wireless AC speed. So far so good, no disconnection or dropped connectivity. Able to stream youtube HD content and toggle app.

I have no use for static IP. so I guess i couldnt test it for you now. Perhaps you can try a hard reset instead of a reboot?

Dear all,

RT-AC87U_3.0.0.4_376_2784 < Unofficial beta firmware >

My opinion on 2784.

I have also done a hard reset after upgrading, and did not restore from config file.

the bugs present since inception and 2769, are also present in 2784. :s11:

What's worth praising is wireless AC performance is better. I have 2 AC devices connected to ac87u always couldnt hit full 866mbps using 2769. In 2784, both my AC devices are able to hit 866mbps constantly and streaming of HD content is smoother.

Apart from this shocking discovery, this firmware makes no difference to the previous one.

One obvious bug still not fixed in 5Ghz broadcasting WPS though webUI indicated "OFF". this happens after every reboot.
(this bug very difficult to crush?)

Hi,

If the 87U is set to Default Wireless Router mode, you can assign an IP and reboot till cows fly and the unit will still keep it's static IP. It's only in AP mode that is having the issue.

If this will help Asus tech reproduce the issue, here's the hardware and date code/batch info if they suspect HW issue:
Hardware version: A1
Firmware version: 3.0.0.4.376.1779
Check Number:3011
MFG Year: 2014

thx
