In celebration of the season and my first year as a wet shaver, I've decided to PIF some items that I am unlikely to use in my rotation but might help other folks here.

Blades [ALL NEW, UNUSED]:
1. Supermax Platinum - 2 packs of 5 blades each
2. Gillette Wilkinson Sword - 2 packs of 5 blades each 1 pack reserved for Junkpile till 29/12
3. Astra Platinum (green) - 2 packs of 5 blades each 1 pack reserved for Junkpile till 29/12
4. Astra Stainless (blue) - 1 pack of 5 blades
5. Croma Diamant - 2 packs of 10 blades each
6. Assorted blade sampler pack (1 blade each of Gillette Nacet, Rapira, Treet Dura Sharp, Astor, Astra Stainless, Astra Platinum, Laser, Racer, Zorrik, Laser Super Stainless, Zaza, Derby, Treet Platinum, Lord, Isane, Merkur Super, Gillette Wilkinson Sword, Gillette 7 o' clock Stainless) Reserved for Junkpile till 29/12

Razor [ALL NEW, UNUSED]:
1. Cheapo Made in China travel razor (3 piece)

Shaving cream (note that I do not have any of the boxes, tubes only):
1. Vicco Turmeric shaving cream 70g - 1 tube [UNUSED]
Bought from Haniffa a while back, they had a 1 for 1 offer. Still on my first tube, unlikely to use this again as I'm not a fan of the scent.

2. Fume shaving soap 300g - 1 tub [USED ONCE]
Bought from bestshave.net, this is more of a hard cream/soft soap. Pleasant scent, easy to lather, but not enough menthol for me.

3. Palmolive Classic shaving cream 100ml - 1 tube [UNUSED]
Bought this on a trip to Germany recently, didn't realize I had a few tubes from Mr. M already.

4. Derby Menthol shaving cream 100gr - 1 tube [USED ONCE]
Bought from bestshave.net, pleasant scent but not enough menthol for me.

5. Godrej Menthol Mist 70g - 1 tube [UNUSED, OLD PACKAGING]
My favorite menthol shaving cream! Unfortunately I have 5 tubes of this stuff, so giving away one to make some space.

Aftershave [ALL UNUSED]
1. Body Shop Maca Root Razor Relief 50ml - 1 tube
Bought from Body Shop when they had a 1 for 1 offer sometime back. Great for razor burn, AWFUL smell. Unlikely to use this second tube.

2. Gillette Aftershave Gel Sensitive Skin 75ml - 2 bottles
Left over from my cartridge shaving days!

As this is a PIF, I'm not expecting payment for these items (not sure what PIF means? Check Badger & Blade - sorry, I can't post links!). However, I will have to insist that collection is from Tanjong Pagar MRT station (or nearby), I am flexible on the time. It would be nice if you could share a review after you use the item, to help the forum. I am not going to restrict the number of items per member, I trust that you will only take what you will need.

Strictly first come, first serve. If you would like any of the items, please PM me with the following details:
1. Name
2. HP number
3. Item(s) you are keen on (preference 1, 2, 3 - incase you don't get your first preference)
4. Collection date, time, location near Tanjong Pagar MRT.

Updated availability above. Items available (all unused) are:
1. Supermax Platinum - 2 packs of 5 blades each
2. Cheapo Made in China travel razor (3 piece, Flying Eagle brand I think)
3. Vicco Turmeric shaving cream 70g - 1 tube (great slickness and protection, not the easiest to lather or best scent)
4. Gillette Aftershave Gel Sensitive Skin 75ml - 2 bottles (great for sensitive skin, lots of aloe)

Thanks for the blade sampler, Merkur59! Looking forward to using the Personna and comparing it to Feather.

Thanks for the fume and bodyshop AS. The AS smells exactly like the cream, which I like.
I like the fume scent too. Will be testing out fume and the AS for tonight's shave.

I think fume is a 'croap' like cella. Will simply load it off the tub tonight.
[PS: just noted that you already have most of the blades in my sampler- was in a rush when I packed them]
And Merry Christmas to all who celebrates Christmas!!!

SOTN

Merkur 37C
Astra Platinum (1)
Fume croap (from vinyljunky)
Bodyshop AS (from vinyljunky)
Semogue 830

This is more a review of the fume cream/soap and Bodyshop AS than the shave itself

Fume
  1. No menthol feel
  2. Easy to load
  3. Artificial perfume smell but I think it is a ymmv thingy. Once you get pass this, the croap is ok. Nothing like DRH
  4. IMO - equivalent to bodyshop shaving cream in performance (not bad but something you won't be buying again)

Bodyshop Relief AS
  1. When I first it smelled it from my finger tip, it was nice.
  2. But once it gets on the face, esp below the nose, it reminds me a bit of mothball. It does smell a bit like the cream.
  3. Performance wise, I think Nivea Sensitive, and even lucido top it.

Thanks, vinyljunky, for the opportunity to test them.

Sacrificed my SOTD yesterday for an SOTN so that I look presentable for my Christmas dinner (haha!). I actually like shaving at night, seems less rushed.

SOTN

Gillette "Old Type" Open Comb
Personna Platinum Chrome (Personna Red - thanks merkur59)
Omega 13564
Biotique Bio Palmyra Shaving Cream
Hattric Classic After Shave

Met up with merkur59 yesterday to pass him some PIF items, and he kindly gave me a blade sampler in return. The Personna Red immediately caught my eye, I've been wanting to try this for a while. Paired it with my Gillette "Old Type" Open Comb razor - an aggressive combo. Unfortunately, I found the Personna lacking. Not a bad shave, just not as good a shave I get with my Feathers. It took me a 4-pass shave to get a BBS, compared to my usual 3. For me, that's in the same league as Derby, but the Personna is definitely smoother. I'll try pairing it with a less aggressive razor for the second shave to see if that helps it shine.

The Biotique Bio Palmyra shaving cream is one of those rare creams that makes you wonder why you use any other cream. It smells faintly of green apple, which is unusual because that's not in the ingredients. Did a quick google search on Palmyra, and it's apparently the fruit of the Palmyra palm - that's probably where the scent is from. The cream lathers extremely easily, and very little of it gives you enough for a 3-4 pass shave. Where this cream excels, though, is in its moisturizing and slickness. I've never seen a cream this slick, and that's without any lanolin or glycerin. It has a lot of natural oils, which might be the reason. By my fourth pass, my skin felt softer than it had ever been, which is amazing since I don't use any moisturizer. If I had to use only one cream for the rest of my life, this would be it. I was lucky to get it when I was on a business trip in India at INR 180 (SGD 3.75), which is a steal for 180 grams. It's available on the Biotique website for USD 4.99 (SGD 6.60), which is still a good price.

The Hattric Classic is the last of my "German" aftershaves. I paid around Euro 4.50 (SGD 7.30) for a 200 ml bottle in Berlin. It comes in a simple, classic glass bottle. It's got a pleasant, aquatic scent which is tough to describe. The closest I can pin it to is Armani Aqua Di Gio (at one tenth the price!). There's no menthol in it, so not much cooling, but I think I'll still use it. One word of warning though, this is a pretty long-lasting scent (I was still smelling it after 6 hours!) so it might overpower your cologne.

Happy Holidays, everyone!

Merkur 37C
Astra Platinum (2)
Fume croap
Bodyshop AS
Omega 49

2nd try with fume - loaded longer, and it gives thick lather for 2 passes plus 1 buffing.
Bodyshop AS - Don't 'feel' the 'calming' effect after application.

Astra P - always seems to shave better/smoother on the 2nd shave (?). These were freebies I got with purchases. Probably my last pack before I dip into the 100pcs box I got from bestshave ;)

Astra SS (blue) works well with both my slants too- I guess I need not worry about being without a good blade...

Alternating between a fatboy and a slim these days....loving the fatboy...perfect balance...use it at setting 9 for an effortless irritation free shave all the time.

Havent been so lucky with the slim...no matter what blade or angle i use....get a fair bit of tugging sensation on the neck area even with a new blade, good lather and prep...and the razor is not misaligned at all...i iused setting 8...some have advised to use the slim on 4 or 5 ...Im going to try....lets see.

Ikon slant 102.
Gillette super thin platinum (1st shave)
Omega
SuperMax Menthol shaving cream
Omega alum block
Light Beard.

This shave is heavenly... Pure BBS. reminds me why i addicted to wet shaving.
Seems like a good combo for this blade and slant. Milder than the previous supermax for some reason. Was about to give up on this blade lol.

Did multiple passes to chin area with lighjt presure.
Finished with Adidas AS splash.

Folks shaving tonight. :)

SOTN

Merkur Slant + Feather
Omega + Provence Sante
I coloniali AS

Recently took out Provence Sante shaving soap from cold storage. Was not a fan of powdery scents but it has mellowed over the ~2 years and it's a pleasure to use it now. This soap was raved years back. It was one of the few soaps that contains shea butter, along with the other famous one Pre de Provence and Institute Karite. It also contains talc that claimed to sooth razor burns. It's easy to load and lathers as thick as Tabac.

Folks, just discovered a menthol boost for those menthol manics .

Load up brush with fav soap/cream, add a pea size amount of -- Gatsby Facial Wash, Perfect Scrub (Dark blue packaging) , lather as usual and get fantastic menthol ...

congratz on finding the matching blade.
I am loving the 102 more than the 37C. Almost every blade works in the 102 though some blades are clearly better in it (smoother or sharper) - currently using supermax super stainless in the 102 with really nice shaves.

Some of the members tried axe (brand) drops...watery eyes...:s13:

For those who are really into menthol, godrej menthol mist packs a punch.
For those who are willing to splurge, vostok may be the answer.

My merkur 37C is still in rotation, esp when I am bored with the 102. With the right blade (feather), it shaves like a dream.

Lol really diff folks diff strokes. My fatboy is gathering dust with my other Gilette vintages while my slim is my daily user. Setting 6 with Personna plat chromes.

Why I like the Omega 80265 boar brush

It feels like the Semogue 830 but IMO is better than the semogue for the following reasons:

  1. More backbone
  2. Lesser bloom
  3. cheaper

It is better than the non banded version in that it feels 'bigger'
[L-R: Omega 49, Semogue 830, Omega 80265, 10066, 10065]

Hello guys, I will be purchasing some shaving item from connaught soon, hope to get some advice from some pros here, hopefully can get a few good shaving items that can last me awhile yet :s12:

Razor: Merkur 37C HD Slant

Was thinking of getting a more aggressive razor... so it down to Open-Comb and Slant head razor... been reading around and Merkur 37C HD Slant seems to be quite a popular choice... any opinion?

Blade: Astra SP, Astra SS and Personna Super Lab Blue

Which is better for Astra? Or it is worth checking out both blade? I wanted to try Personna Lab Blue because I was looking at this YouTuber video and he love Personna, so I thought I want to give it a try.

Pre-Shave Oil/Soap/Cream: I heard I can just don't care about this product?

Shaving Brush: Semogue SOC

Was reading around, apparently SOC is best for face lathering and I love face lathering!

Shaving Soap and Aftershave: Would love to have recommendation here :o

Good choice but not for newbies. If you have used a DE razor for the last few months, maybe.

Both the astra (esp the SS) are available locally, for much cheaper prices. But its your choice. They are great blades.
I have tried the medical personna which is good, but have not tried the lab

Pre-Shave Oil/Soap/Cream: I heard I can just don't care about this product?

Don't need this but again, that's is a preferential matter.

Shaving Brush: Semogue SOC

Was reading around, apparently SOC is best for face lathering and I love face lathering!

Heard that it is stiff and take a long time to break down. If boar is your weapon of choice, I suggest the cheaper banded omega 80265. Else the softer (less backbone) semogue 830 is your best bet.

Shaving Soap and Aftershave: Would love to have recommendation here :o

DR Harris has good soaps. The soft soaps like cella, valobra are easier to load. Too many choices, both creams and soaps...Amongst these good soaps, the fight is between their scents...

See my response in red above
