I don't know how many outages there has been recently, but I have to say I am pleased with their customer and tech support. Didn't manage to call the hotline but the response on fb is pretty quick and tech support resolved my router issue after the outage.

I think they do need a avenue for better communication, like a quick twitter/fb update when the network is down so we know what is going on. I was wondering what was going on until I came on here to check. The hotline also needs to be able to handle better load since none of us could get through.

Last time when I was on Starhub. I got random outages and when I finally get through to tech support, they only know how to tell me restart modem until I dulan...

Technically for this year, this is the 2nd Fibernet outage, considering that there was another localized outage to only Bedok and East around mid march.

As for prior ones which was before I joined, never encountered any...

Now, start flaming me. NOW.

Just curious. Can you give some form of proof that you are indeed on VQ first? I just want to satisfy myself that I am not looking at a troll, coz the norm on HWZ is that new accounts with very few posts tend to be clone accounts. Close this loophole first and do yourself a favour.

Perhaps its time for u to leave VQ and join ST instead?

For those who are considering signing up with Viewqwest, please clear all doubts. I have been with VQ for more then a year and this is my first unplanned outage under them. Considering I have been with Singnet for nearly 10 years, MyRepublic for nearly 3 years before. I have had my share of horror experiences with both. In fact, I just got a lawyer letter from MyRepublic regarding my old account which I will choose to ignore since they chose to ignore my request as a subscriber back when they first rolled out their 1gb plan and and went on to aggresively expand their customer base while forsaking their current ones. This situation was publicly talked about on one of the older fibre broadband threads, do a search.

Anyway I'm in no way affiliatd to VQ, I'm just a Singaporean who like many others choose to support the underdog in any way we can. But even underdogs sometimes try to bite the hand that feeds them when they get too big-headed.

But so far VQ is the best doggy i ever had =)

So what happened with the lawyer letter in the end?

He listed objectively the dates that VQ has had outages and your reply is one telling him to change company. LOL. How's covering your eyes and ears pretending every thing is ok while singing lalalala working for you?

Well, since he is so unpleased with VQ, might as well leave? No point torturing oneself over outrages unless it last for more than 24 hours w/o internet....

Anyway, i have alrdy signed 2 yrs with them, nothing i can do to break contract if outrages are a norm. To me, im a nee customer so i would just sit by and monitor within 2 yrs. If his contract is up and he feels that VQ not up to his expectations, he might as well join other isp?

Its only been the 2nd mth with VQ, but the service at least seems to be better than MR before 1gbps and obviously much better than after MR 1gbps plan was introduced....

Not saying it is not true. Just that both connections I have with VQ across the island sure did not encounter that many outages over the last 1 year.

As mentioned, island-wide outage of this magnitude last night - it is 2nd time in the last 4-5 years I have been with VQ.

honestly, why is tinkerbot complaining? if you are unhappy, there are 3 other options out there for you. honestly im on the green line and i can tell u it sucks. been with them for like 2/3 years and no outrage but the speed is amazingly sluggish. even the router that they give for free sucks... u get signal 10m away from router but the ping is like 50ms.

During the course of the outage last night, the zhone router red alarm did not flashed. It was apparently working normally. It will be good if the VQ hotline did not go down.

Normally will be hosting a planned meeting with worldwide team ard 1030pm. Luckily yesterday was not that day.

VQ with the new subs, pls go buy more redundant routers or something.

Let's give Tinkerbot a chance to speak. Perhaps we can learn something and VQ can help us understand their business practice a little bit more.

Tinkerbot, can you please tell us your location and if/where possible, how long was the downtime. Don't mean to make you work at it but these would really be useful to identify the spread of failure and the response to failure.

Thanks.

PS. Personally I have not experienced too many downtime myself. Most downtime were brought up within minutes.

The last one I recall was when the station go burned down... which didn't really affect me at Bukit Timah Hill. I am not talking about maintence downtime though.

Dear Customers

At approximately 10:30pm last night we detected that there was widespread loss of connectivity across the network affecting most customers. The cause of this was due to 2 critical routers which act in tandem to backup each other had become unresponsive. We are still investigating the cause of this and will provide an update.

Our primary concern during this and any outage is always to restore services as the highest priority. As minimal staff were on duty during that time, it took us some time to activate additional support staff to respond to customers.

The affected routers were returned to normal operations at approximately 11:00pm and customer connections returned to normal although some customer may have needed to power cycle their equipment at home.

We do not take events like this lightly nor will we ignore customer feedback. Our responses may be a bit slow and this is due to us trying to determine facts before making any statements. We appreciate your patience during this event and I would like to apologise to each of you for the disruption caused. I will personally be ensuring that we determine the cause and take corrective action to prevent this from happening.

yours sincerely

Yeah I agree, in fact I don't use my own surfing experience as a measure of outages. I actually use an external pinger to ping my home through a secured connection every few minutes to check if it's up. So far only experienced last night, the other dates he mentioned did not show up as outages for me.

I'm just hoping this latest round of mass subscription is not going to change that experience. Fingers crossed
