Hi, I've resetted the router to factory defaults. computers are connected via cable but I'm limited to 500mbps for download and 700 mbps for upload on the speedtest websites.

Is this normal for asus ac66u ?

I am using the same router but I am using VQ. I can get more than 900Mbps for both download and upload. Just for your information, I am using the router in Access Point (AP) mode for my VQ set-up.

What does VQ stands for?

Your router should connect to port 2 on the ONT.

why port 2 may i ask?

check that your speed test server is pointed to singtel server, and disable all antivirus software when you do so. Make sure you are not behind any firewall when you are doing the speed test.

Lastly, which Singtel 1Gbps plan are you on?

You've hit the limit on this router. The AC66 is single core 600mhz and thats about the limit. If you want faster you got to buy a faster router or overclock your AC66.

There is no routing in switching mode thats why you can get the max speed.

Possible.. But it depends greatly on what are the rules and restriction set for the antivirus. The stricter the the rules, the greater the protection and thus the slower it will get.

Apologies to TS if you don't like me piggy-back your thread. I am also using Asus RT-66U router but I am using M1 1GBps fibre broadband. I have my asus router at the living room which is what I'd consider a centralised location.

I recently ran tests using speedtest.net connecting my router to my macbook using a Cat 6 LAN cable. The results I got were about 700-800mbps download and 600-700mbps upload.

I then ran tests wirelessly (LAN cable disconnected) with the macbook sitting right beside the router, I clocked speeds at 600-700mbps download and 300-500mbps upload. I thought this is pretty decent wirelessly.

However the results I got from running speed test on my other iMac 5k retina which is in my study room (no more than 2-3m away from the router but walls in the way), I get disappointing results like 200-300mbps download and less than 200mbps upload.

- Is it normal that I am getting such results with my iMac 5K?

- Is it because i'm connecting it wirelessly at a distance of 2-3m away and with walls in between?

- How can I improve the speed?

- Is adding an additional router+LAN cable to connect the new router to my iMac 5k possible?

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hmm, okay. but just to double confirm that its router fault, any west siders have a spare powerful router for me to test?
