Just bought Sony 55 inch X8500C UHD TV.

Any suggestions on where to get 4k content to watch? Yet to try Netflix, but their website doesn't list 8500C as a compatible model for 4k (lists 8500B though).

Any idea whether Netflix app will show 4k list even if 8500C not listed?

Or any other source of 4k content?

whats the point of 4K at 55"? Can't easily find 4K videos and 4K blu ray players now (probably none on market) but you would already know that before you bought the TV yes?

4K material is very rare now.
Dealers are selling 4k TV sets based on clever marketing, and Singaporeans are kiasu sorts, who don't want to buy an "obsolete" technology like Full HD, even though the majority of Singaporeans don't even watch Full HD most of the time.

TS asking for 4K videos, which are rare or hard to find. Nonetheless, UHD TV may be useful for those who have 4K video function in their camera, especially if money is not an issue.

Yeah I know thr isnt lot of content. Was just trying my luck to see of thr r any sources that I don't know of.
it still made some sense to get 4k. Mainly to connect my computer to tv for photo editing. Also, am not gonna change TV for next 7-8 years (unless it breaks down), and surely thr will be enuf 4k content much before that.

Any experience with Sony's "Video Unlimited 4K?
Firstly it cost > 2k for the Sony 4K Ultra HD Media Player
And it's not available locally.
I assume you check out what sources of 4k are available before buying a 4k TV?

Even Full HD media isn't cheap locally. A BR disc costs 20-40S$, or less off Amazon USA.

Do check your viewing distance, you will need to sit at about 1.8m or less to fully appreciate 4k media on a 55" screen.

I don think there is much of a worry, FHD TVs are facing out ... all the new models now are all UHD or SUHD... by next year, FHD TVs may not be in production.

Once that time comes, the 4k videos will catch up to the market.

For now, enjoy 4k upscale videos, shd be better than FHD bah.

Bought my fhd tv in 2008. Till now our mediacorp hd plus those miotv and starhub still at 1080i only. So much to catch up.

Have u tried viewing on a 4K LED TV with movie various resolutions, eg, 480p, 576p and 720p? If u did, u will see the reality of the upscaling on LED...and if u can, do the same on a FHD equivalent size TV and view side by side; this will give a good comparison on how well FHD vs UHD can perform.

commercially available 4k contents are almost non-existent. Its sad considering these facts

1) 4k hardware are maturing with arrival of HDMI 2.0 and HDCP2.2
2) contents were available since donkeys years ago as all film delivered by digital theatre has been in native 4k (albeit 4096, not 3840) formats.

Problem however lies within delivery technology:
1) BD disc was not designed with 4k in mind. 4k BD standard has been very slow to arrive, let alone adopted. So called 4k BD player in market does upscaling, which arguably if you have a good set of 4k TV, the TV does the same if not better upscaling job than your BD player.
2) VP9/VP10/HEVC H.265 has only been recently standardized. Almost none of 2014 4k model support them so if you have one of the 2014 sets, you can kiss 4k streaming straight from your TV goodbye.
3) content distributor has been very paranoid about 4k. Despite them having a native master copy of 4k films all these while, these are considered as the holy grail contents that differentiate a cinema experience from your home cinema. And if these contents managed to leak all over the internet like 1080p contents, they are afraid cinema goers would stay home. Even 4k Netflix has been very tightly controlled with very specific hardware certification to ensure this does not happen. Arrival of HDCP 2.2 might convince them to change though.

Last but not least for where to get 4k contents:
1) YouTube 4k - nothing interesting here. A couple of good short film which is good for demo. Those coming from GoPro / action camera can be skipped right away the camera compression + youtube compression makes them less shiny than actual properly done 4k videos.
2) Netflix 4k TV - Good contents although limited, they are expanding the catalog at a steadier pace compared to others. Tricky part is they have very tightly controlled hardware that so far only seen a couple of the biggest name in TV hardware managed to get their TV certified to stream Netflix 4k. And these feature has been removed for overseas set hence for example the feature is disabled in X8500C despite being present in US X8500B. And no, you can't stream netflix 4k over the web.
3) Netflix 4k certified hardware - Has to fullfill all content protection set by Netflix and very little present at the moment, in fact only one worth mentioning, namely nVidia Shield TV. And at USD 199, it is arguably very affordable too considering Sony is charging thousands for its FMP-X.
4) Amazon 4k / others - mostly are priced per movie / episode. Not very economical for me considering Netflix is charging USD 12 per month for unlimited access.

Home user may not find much different for HD1080 and 4K.. I still find investing in good sound system is a must.

Currently there aren't any true 4k blue ray player in the market yet
But got some players with 4k upscaling
Therefore the quality is as good as FHD
