No noticeable difference.

Actually its more like I can't recall the last time I use beamforming properly with this router.

Hi JK,

Do i need to do a hard reset for the latest beta firmware by pressing the button located at the back of the unit?
Can i just do a factory reset at the UI?

Pls advice.

Thanks

Should we still keep beamforming off on 2.4/5G?

I got no issue with beamforming. Maybe you can give it a try.

Hi JK,
I think there's some issue with the IPv6.
After disabling it, my laptop don't have this lag on WAN.

My settings are :-
Singtel IPv6
Connection type : Tunnel 6rd
DHCP Option : Disable
IPv6 Prefix : 2400:d803::
IPv6 Prefix Length : 32
IPv4 Border Router : 202.166.127.6
IPv4 Router Mask Length : 0
Tunnel MTU : 0
Tunnel TTL : 255
IPv6 DNS Server 1 : 2400:d800::1
IPv6 DNS Server 2 : 2400:d800::2
IPv6 DNS Server 3 : 2001:4860:4860::8888
Enable Router Advertisement : Enable

Yes. Occasionally WAN connection will just stall. It will take around 1-2 mins to recover by itself.

But during that period, I can still access LAN and other devices can still access WAN.

Previously I tot was 5GHz issue. 😁 Recently I'm using Ethernet connection instead of WiFi…

Dear thiamhui,

Did you try reboot your router and test again?

issues

I bought this router a few days ago and i gave up on 5 ghz network because it was lagging and disconnecting (fw 3.0.0.4.378.5134)

In hope to solve the 5 ghz issue i updated fw to RT-AC87U_3.0.0.4_378_7411- Unofficial beta, i am just beginning testing the 5 ghz network (iphone 6) and seems to work fine so far, but the internet speed on cable seems to have decreased . I was getting around 900 mbps with old fw now i get around 665 mbps. I power cycled the router and same result. I made sure to close everything and have 0 % cpu usage. Test conducted in chrome.

I can't attach proof because i am new.

Is there a fw that works well for 5 ghz wifi and cable throughput ?

I got most of the beam forming thing worked out, at least it worked for the past 3 Asus beta's
(the only problem is keeping it working for over 24hours at the moment without a reboot)

This is the way I have to flash or 5GHz beam forming will fail within 2 hours (if flashed normally or any other way) and who knows what else does not work right, it might be something for others to try if they can't get things to work.

1. Download latest flash (this case 7411).

2. Flash 7411 through the web GUI, (Wait ~3 minutes or more for 2.4GHz and 5GHz light to light up).

3. Put RT-AC87U in the recovery mode by following these steps:
- turn off the router
- While pressing the "WPS" button at back; turn on the router and keep holding this button for 5 seconds after the router is on and then leave it.
- Quickly press the "RESET" button at back and keep pressing till the power blue led starting blinking slowly.

4. You may not need this step. Change your LAN or WiFi adapter in Windows to a static IP 192.168.1.2 and Gateway 192.168.1.1 if not identified.

5. Go to your browser and navigate to 192.168.1.1 (unless you change it)

6. You should be in the recovery firmware page.
- Press the clear (or reset, I forgot what it says) Nvram button like 5 times giving 10 seconds in-between
- Browse the firmware you downloaded (7411) and press upload button.

7. You should wait and do not turn the router off till it restarts itself automatically. The page could looks hanged but it take a minute or less to finish the upload and then wait till the page says "Firmware update is successful completed". There is a percentage level bar at bottom-left of the web page. (Wait ~3 minutes or more for 2.4GHz and 5GHz light to light up)

8. Skip the setup menu (as best as you can)

9. Flash AGAIN 7411 through the web GUI, (Wait ~3 minutes or more for 2.4GHz and 5GHz light to light up).

10.Skip the setup menu (as best as you can).

11.Reset to factory defaults in the web GUI (Wait ~3 minutes or more for 2.4GHz and 5GHz light to light up).

12.Configure from scratch (like a new unit)
!!!Cheers all!!!
