Look at the two new SMCs created... They are like honeypots...
Macpherson is just beside Marine Parade GRC... Those that eyeing Marine Parade GRC might turn their attention to Macpherson SMC in the upcoming election.
And look at Fengshan, just beside East Coast GRC... These two GRCs are more "rebellious" than those GRCs in the northern and western parts of SG...
Taking small SMC from these GRCs and turning them into honeypots, confirm will take the heat off those GRCs one...

Normally, the strongest opposition party should be the one contesting more places so as to expand and challenge the ruling party on its own terms in future.

But in Singapore, minor parties are demanding that the strongest opposition party should give them a chance to get elected.

Goh Meng Seng is eye-ing the newly created Fengshan SMC. By default this area should go to WP right? Because it was always part of East Coast GRC where WP always contested for decades.

But minor parties will kpkb when WP contests anywhere outside Aljunied, Hougang and Punggol East.

PAP knows this. That's why the WP contested areas in GE2011 are the most badly affected by the electoral boundaries.

Moulmein Kallang GRC is gone, replaced by Jalan Besar GRC. Why? Because Jalan Besar was the name of the GRC that was there before Moulmein Kallang. It was contested by NSP as part of SDA.

The reapperance/renaming of Jalan Besar GRC will cause of multi-cornered fight between WP and NSP.

Joo Chiat gone. WP may have to contest Marine Parade or the new MacPherson SMC instead. Will have clashes with the minor parties again.
