They recover from others who bought the extended warranty but do not need the service. Good luck or bad luck, depending on how you look at it.
Sony just refuse to replace it even it is beyond repair during warranty. Sony did not sell extended warranty, it is the superstore extended warranty that replace my Tv. My Sony is replaced with a new LG Tv.

You earlier said Sony lost money wat...

It doesn't matter who gives/sells warranty/extended warranty. Both work like insurance, the pool collected pays for the subsequent warranty service to those who need it. For new tv, the cost of warranty is priced into the selling price. If the service is not outsourced, the pool of money goes to the cost of the service center. If the service is outsourced, the money from the pool pays for the 3rd party service provider.

If you are lucky/unlucky to need warranty/extended warranty service, le wu tan because others help you to pay the cost.

Others who need service are lucky/unlucky, because they liao lui, paying for nothing.

I talked about a general concept, not about individual cases.

In general it is still better to have extended warranty. Sony Tech told me lucky i have extended warranty or else i will have to pay even more. Save a lot of $ with extended warranty. Sony tech said their set got spoilt easily compared to others. They are making $ but not as good as it is in the olden days. He said that Sony Tv good time is over and he advised me to avoid Japanese brand for Tv and to go for Samsung or LG Tv.
I waited for the warranty to be over and exercise my extended warranty.

Honestly to me it is not manufacturer fault if the Tv go up lorry after 3 yrs as user should know how to get extended warranty as such Tv can spoilt at any time easily.
Not only LG, quality is dropping faster than price for all brand so i always advise people to get extended warranty which can take care of issue on the 4th yr. LG is still better than others. Some Tv after 1 mth already need to call for servicing. Some Tv within 1 yr already screen faulty.

That's you opinion (on extended warranty) lah, we don't hear from others. I for one, don't buy extended warranty. If after 3 years tv spoilt, buy new one helped with the money saved from not buying extended warranty. More advance feature, maybe 8K by then, maybe cheaper some more.

If everyone who buys extended warranty is as lucky/unlucky as you, then the cost of extended warranty can only go up soon.

For such extended warranty it pay a credit amount as settlement and you can buy any new Tv with the store credit amount. You can still bargain for a better price first before paying off with the credit amount. I bargain 10% off the sales price and ask them to match the price. Then I pay for the purchase using the credit amount. Such extended warranty is like insurance and you only buy it if you are not sure of the product. Anyone can get a new model replacement Tv just like some of us as long as it is beyond repair. Earlier it was Comex staff who advised me to get EW.

No. I opened the casing and checked all the necessary capacitors. Nothing bloated.

If it is CRT Tv, you can do that but for such flat Tv it is hard to check. Did you check the powerboard? Even Technician will just change the whole motherboard or powerboard.

I don't know if mine is consider small issue.

The color spectrum is off, other than this everything is working as per normal.

However, after leaving the TV on for awhile, sometimes it will go back to normal, but when off it, and re-ON, it is like this again.

I have hence uploaded pictures for all the experts here to see what could be the possible problem to my TV and will I be able to buy the spare parts and repair it myself ? Thanks.

Model: LG 42LV5500

It is the back light of the screen going to go up the lorry. It cost > $1k. I already said earlier that it is motherboard, powerboard and Screen. No other major parts. After you change it, other problem may pop up later.

Hi, so your diagnose of my TV problem is the back light going to uplorry ? hmm my thinking is backlight is cheap. let's say i change backlight nia, how much a backlight cost ? I only open the surface level, still got one more level to expose the back of screen.

Based on what i see, it should be backlight because earlier I had a PC monitor also having such problem and slowly the backlight up lorry. understand that such Tv manufacturer do not sell just the backlight alone and a good example is Sony Tv who sell only the whole screen > $1,000.

Since manufacturer has stopped producing the part, there is no other option except to buy a new Tv. Nowadays Tv is cheap.

Hi,

I have a brand new TV KDL55W800B which I bought in April 2015. Stored it in a wharehouse until now. When I first installed it and on, I saw an internal crack in the LED TV panel. The Physical Panel is not broken.

Sony advised me that their technician will need to come down to assess the situation on Friday, but most likely need to replace the whole LCD Panel which costs $1,428. I asked a repair man outside, and he quoted me $700.

Went back to Courts and they told me to send them pictures of the box, to see that it is not dented and manhandled. Now courts is assisting to liaise with Sony to see if they can do something about it. At courts end, they cannot replace a new set for me, cause the TV is already not selling anymore. Its been replaced with the KDL55X800C. So if really successful they willl replace it with the newer model.

What are the chances of this happening? anybody can advice please?

Thanks

Too bad. The store will tell you to check when you pay for it and within 7 days. So after buying from the store i will switch on to see any thing wrong and can bring it back for 1 to 1 exchange within 7 days of purchase. After 7 days no way to change. Outside is not original Sony parts so it is cheaper. Original part is > $1000 for sure.

All of us want good life, good salary, buy house, buy car. So do the repairmen...haha.

Its LG that wants $210
I had Mr Ho 93520850 came to take a look... he is honest and has all the knowledge... costs me $50 for his effort to run up and down LG parts office a few times.
