Hi Hardlok,

Have you upgraded your RT-AC88U to the latest firmware 3.0.0.4.380_1354?

Thanks,

Hi brothers
My AC88 sporadically loses all internet connectivity (LAN/WAN access remains ok when that happens) for LAN and Wifi. Nothing but a hard reboot will solve the problem. Is this possibly a hardware problem? None of the previous Asus routers I've used ever had a single sporadic problem such as this. Should I do a factory reset as a first probe into the problem? Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Asus expert!
Having owned previous Asus routers for years without basic problems such as this, even on the earlist firmware, I was sure that such a sporadic issue cannot be due to firmware (and the auto firmware update check shows nothing).

So I tried for days to alter various router settings to solve the problem, and also troubleshooting my fibre setup, without luck. That's when I decided to sniff out hwz to see if I can get any help from the brothers here. I have since downloaded the firmware and installed it (with a complete hard reset afterwards). Now monitoring to see if the problem has been cleared.

Thanks and will report the outcome here soon.

Hi, I'm wondering if there's any bug or issue with my 88u, but the upload speed calculated here is 2x higher than my download speed.

DL: 154Mbps, UL: 368Mbps

Firmware on 1354, No QoS enabled, direct connection from router to ONT on SingTel Unlimited.

Someone pls advice!

Problem confirmed not solved. :(

I guess an RMA is needed. Will I get a replacement set / loan set on the spot during the RMA?

Is the range of the AC88U much better than the AC3200? I am using AC3200 but realised that the range is so so as I need to setup another access point for my bedroom.

i am no expert but from the reviews i read there is not much gain in terms of reach but better sharing of bandwidth. i have an ac68 and would upgrade to an ac88 if reach were better. feels short on the 5ghz range where I am most interested in.

??? Any idead where does this new firmware come from? I had checked update via the router UI and Asus website. It seems like the latest version is still 3.0.0.4.380.1354?

poor_poor usually gets a first hand release of the firmware.. you might wanna wait for a few days or even after the chinese new year holiday in taiwan to end, then it might appear on the website.. :D

Ahhh I see, thanks for the clarification. Thus far is it any good? perhaps will give it a try once I have the time.

Btw, I just got this awesome router, the setup is pretty effortless and the wifi coverage is good. But then I do find that the wireless transfer speed abit disappointing when I run test on speedtest.net, even when my devices are just right next to the router.

Just checking with the pros here what is the typical wifi speed you guys got for 2.4ghz & 5ghz on 1Gpbs fiber plan? Is there any tips or setup guide that could help to maximize the wifi speed?

Thanks in advance for any advice and happy cny. =)

i suppose this is by cable right? have you updated your ethernet driver?

i think it will be good if you can test with another computer directly with ONT first.. if its the same, then i guess you need to alert 1688 already..

This is by Wireless (AC) at close range. Wired speeds measured up normal with both > 800 Mbps

if so, then the speed you get is normal if your devices are at least 2x2.

my tab s2 also yield roughly around the same speed on 866mbps link rate.

my macbook pro running on 3x3 wireless ac can only give me the best around 500-600+mbps when connected to 1300mbps. but in reality, its only connected at 975mbps link rate due to a wall in between macbook pro and router. my wireless speed test is about 300+ to 400+ depending on situations..

Well, my MacBook Pro Retina is running on 3x3 AC, which ran this test. I betting it's considered unusual for these speeds.

Even its if a 2x2, I'm kind of expecting the DL and UL to be similar if not stable-similar. I did a factory restore already but it didn't change the situation.

as i mentioned before, it depends on your wireless environment, the link rate connected etc..

if you think its abnormal then its time to visit the service centre for some advice..

This happened for ac88u as well? I had got very similar issue like these with my pre ac87u, for which I got 430+mpbs download and 730+mpbs upload, I contacted Avertek and Asus support, but issue still there even got replacement. So finally I used another brand(AC1900) and now both my download is around 500mbps and upload is around 600mbps, so I guess it may be a bug or "feature" for Asus.
