Hi, I got the ASUS AC-56S router from M1 and hardware wise it seems to be the same as the 56U.

So what's the difference and can I install the same latest AC56U firmware to my AC56S?

Thanks!

Hi chocoblitz,

This is a special model that is exclusive for M1. We have yet to test it out because it just came in for PC Show. But accordingly to our specs, they are the same.

I recommend you to use the default firmware for RT-AC56S since it is our newest batch with the latest firmware. There will not be a need to update the firmware for now.

Thanks!

hi,

the box sticker for AC56S says

HW version A1
FW Ver 3.0.0.4.374_4561

It's not the latest firmware, as Asus site already states version 3.0.0.374.5656 for AC56U.

Hi,

just did another check. They're not the same. The AC56S has half the CPU and half the RAM.

Dear Techno Pride,

RT-AC56S is a special router design to optimize for M1 Fibre broadband.

RT-AC56U and RT-AC56S is different models and you can't update AC56S firmware to AC56U.

ASUS says "optimize for M1 Fibre broadband." so should be something better for M1 purpose, right ?

That is their marketing and u fell for it. If M1 backend fails or shut down, no matter how optimised your router is for M1, u will get crappy internet service.

So, the majority of ur internet will depend on M1 backend.

No matter how good is your MSI motherboard, when Singapore Power (SP) shut down and your computer can't power up. :s22:

Nothing in particular, would like to have the english manual for reference. It is not available? Does the AC56U manual cover about 90% of the AC56S? Tks.
