Hi guys, following that thread on Citibank Rewards about pple shopping in Timberland KL/online and getting their bonus rewards, and pple who shopped in Timberland Taipei and didn't get bonus  I've been digging around for some kind of clear explanation as to which merchants are acceptable under various reward programs, but found none. Discovered recently that Visa has a pretty extensive database but only for US retailers (just google "visa supplier locator" - sorry can't post link as i'm too junior), but there isn't something similar for SG

Rather than call in to the bank to dispute each of the merchants when we don't get the rewards we expected (probably not within their control since the classification is set between merchant & Visa/Amex/Mastercard), could we crowdsource and share which cards have worked for you in redeeming bonus rewards for spending in the correct category - do indicate wrong categories as well so we know we can avoid it!

List will probably run very very long, at some point perhaps I (or someone very free) could take over and post this list in an easier to read format in another website..?

Also make sure you check if it's Visa/Amex/Mastercard - their classifications may vary so let's be specific.

Ran through my old statements (unfortunately I only have 2 cards, both from citi, with such rewards classification), was surprised myself that eg Cafe Iguana did not earn rewards under my Citi Platinum Clear but Brewerkz did - they are just right beside each other :s8: Anyway to get the ball rolling and include the few I read from others previously, see list below

Saw a list posted by lcpteck on the DBS Woman's Mastercard thread, but since that card gives X10 rewards for any online retail spend, think should be quite safe hence no need to specify which merchant...

Also to note, for UOB Preferred Platinum Amex:

Cardmembers will earn 10X UNI$ at any F&B establishments registered under the following MCC:

5812 Eating Places and Restaurants
5813 Drinking Places (Alcoholic Beverages) – Bars, Taverns, Nightclubs, Cocktail Lounges, and Discotheques
5814 Fast Food Restaurants

F&B establishments does not include bakeries, caterers and F&B spending at establishments that does not have F&B as its main business activity such as hotels and supermarkets. Some examples of these F&B establishments will include Swensens, Crystal Jade, Tung Lok, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Les Amis, Overeasy and Wine Bar.

If you have made any other transactions that are not awarded the bonus UNI$ correctly, please call our Amex Platinum Hotline 1800 352 5222 to inform us so that we can make improvements to provide the best privileges and services to our Cardmembers.

Note: Amex MCC (merchant classification code) for those 3 categories similar to Visa's. Comparing with the list from Citi Plat Clear Visa below, we can guess which falls under 5812 & 5813.

Ok went ahead to add DBS Woman's World Mastercard so we can be comprehensive...

Update: just tested asos.com on CitiRewards Visa earlier this week - account was credited with X10 points so yay! Was initially apprehensive cos CitiRewards CC T&C stated "E-commerce purchases (including, but
not limited to purchases made via the internet) are not eligible for 10x rewards."

got a couple i gotta update, so lemme look thru my list n update all at one go within the week..

sidenote: learnt from the UOB PP Visa thread that e.g., payments for airlines (excluded for 10X UNI pts) made through Paypal (online - supposedly accepted for 10X UNI points), UOB filters through and does not accept it as qualifying charge, so readers take note!

Purchasing tickets via Singapore Air mobile app does not qualify for 10x for DBS Women's.

Someone commented the same thing in the Frank card thread.
Seems like vbox is recognised as "online" while paying at merchant website is not!

I made payment via vbox.com.sg and was awarded 10X for Singtel bill payment.

Yes, this should be the way around it. Nevertheless I'm still fighting with CSO to get my points from ST mybill payment direct...
