In my opinion, collar of shirt is way too big, and pocket size is way too big! My biggest feedback is that your collar of the jacket is WAY too big for a modern cut. It looks like a 3 inch lapel, when modern jackets are only 2-2.5" max. You may want to get that fixed too..

Apart from the chest pocket, I think the rest are pretty okay. In my opinion slim/snug collars and lapels are already way pass their due dates. The shirt collar looks pretty okay, especially when paired with a suit, I like it that the collar extends underneath the lapel, very nice.

For lapel width, it looks like a good conservative width for business. Althought you may wish to try a better fabric next time around, having slightly more porosity helps in the tropics.

Hi all, I understand that advertising here is not allowed, but would like you guys' input. I have recently started sewing ties as a hobby as I feel that good handmade ties are priced too steeply.

They are not officially for sale as of now. I don't want to break forum rules. Please leave a comment on my blog.

as much as i wanted a slim lapel ala thom browne, the tailor advised against it as he said that it would work against my skinny frame with broad shoulders. he said that the skinny lapel would create the illusion of an overly broad shoulder :vijayadmin:

besides, i felt that the lapel was sized just right, classics never go out of style, right? :o

he is the expert, so i didn't want to argue with him and went ahead with the "50-50 lapel"

tho i must agree that his shirts aren't his best product.

Is it fused? Fully lined?

Is it fused? Fully lined?

no idea what that means :s13:

did some googling, quite sure it is half-canvassed

felt 2 layers, the wool blend itself, and the inner lining, between the wool and inner lining, i can feel this cotton thingy, makes a crackling sound when i try to peel them apart/rub the fabric at the area around the breast pocket

however, no crackling sound when i rubbed the area below the coat pockets

and yes, it is fully lined

Myself, colleague & brother used Crown Tailor both in Bangkok and during their visit in Singapore (and we've had friends use their service in the US) and have been extremely happy with their work and service. Once (after 30 shirts) had a shirt that had a small stain on it, sent them an email and voila, solution found from them - had to give them the thumbs up and felt like i like them from a 5 out of 5 to a 6 out of 5.

Crown has fixed prices for their fabric, less cotton, more cotton, high end cottons as far as it goes.

TOT is supposed to be good too - don't know Milan?

But anyways, have a chat to all 3 before deciding? This way you are at ease when you make your purchase!

TOT is very overpriced for a BKK tailor, especially when they are newcomers...

Since when did Crown have fixed prices? I read on another thread that they inflate the initial price (especially for ang mos), so need a lot of bargaining. This info makes me distrust them. Unless you can tell me the price you got for each shirt for the different options?

Not completely handmade, is it? The cloth itself looks fabulous. The brand tag seems too fat.

If you like, I can do a review on it and resend the tie back to you after the review. :)

Online Tailors

Hi guys, would you guys know of any good online tailors?

The only ones I have used are Marcella and will probably give moderntailors a try as they have a trial shirt promotion.

Would you know of any other such online tailors?

Concur on this too.Just curious, out of those ladies who are at least into fashion/style, did they mention on any key items they would look out on men?

Nope they didn't... the guys that some of my friends married look average, dress average (but clean, neat, tidy), and have an average job like IT engineer. One of my friends told me that she married her husband because she can trust him / rely on him to carry out whatever he says he will do.

I've tried them before. Nope, shipping to you is free, but for alterations, yes, you have to pay for postage back to them.

They are average, material is like the local tailors from Peninsular, probably China fabric marketed as Italian. Most are anyways.

They were better in the past, but now, they mix up some details. Like wrong colour buttons, etc.

Good if you are of standard build and just want fitting clothes for work. I wouldn't recommend.

Don't mean to try and contradict you, but shipping to Singapore is probably included in the price they quote you, just like how the "free" transport or taxi rides from your hotel to BKK to their shop is factored in to their price.

Yeah, I agree that most of their material is probably China fabric.

Okay cool, I think they are very price competitive in this area, but that is a good start to suits too. That crackling sound is likely to be the fused canvas, where they iron it to form the 'structure' of the suit.

The other extreme is unfused or floating canvas suits, where pieces of canvas are deliberately fitted according to one's body structure. The following article addresses this issue pretty well:

Men’s Suit Basics: Fussed vs. Canvassed Suits | The Art of Manliness

My experience is online very hard to communicate. Face is face is better for tailoring.

I craft my own boutonniere and lapel pins, and shine shoes. Any other crafters here? Maybe should form a crafting guild, can help each other make customised accesories that is unique. That will be really cool.

That was my worry.
Modern Tailor has a $20 Trial Shirt.
Using the measurements from my tailored shirt, I gave it a go.
Hope it turns out well!

The feel and touch of the fabric swatches are important to me. Which is why perhaps even with the low prices of the online stores, I will only patronize the brick and mortar shops in order to make a better judgement.

Completely handmade. I sewed the tips using sewing machine, hand stitched the tie keeper and back. The lining joint is hand stitched as well. Material was cut from scratch.

I gave this tie away. I have another one that is completely hand sewn, including all the joints and tip.

Will PM you if I can send it over! I using it for a wedding.
