I read around the internet and seems there is a problem in upgrading the graphic cards for acer predator G3620.

To be on the safe side, im targeting only to change the MoBo, VGA, and power supply to the following:

MoBo: ASUS Sabertooth Mark 1
VGA: ASUS GeForce GTX 980
Power Supply: Seasonic 850W

But before im going into huge upgrade as above, would like to know the following:

1. The orignal CPU for Acer Predator G3620 I7-3770 is compatible with ASUS Sabertooth Mark 1
2. Any other computer parts needed to change to fit the upgrade for Acer Predator G3620
3. Any other potential problem I would be facing?

P.S. this is my first time attempt to upgrade my own computer as prebuild Acer Predator G3620 with GT 640 is totally crap with current game.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.:)

Mus check whether that mobo can fit into ur case. The cpu u have right now, dun watch with the mobo that u want.

Why u need so high end gpu and psu? Your case may not even fit the 980 if it has space constraint.

U will need to reinstall OS if u get new mobo. Since ur com is OEM, microsoft wun let u reactivate de.

Overall, at the point you are at, might as well overall everything. Maybe can take out the rams and hdd.

Thanks shadow84.

My intention is to upgrade once and for all.

Problem with Acer Predator G3620 (which i regret buying instead of build the computer myself) is that the current MoBo is not compatible with any VGA card around (read alot of ppl having the same problem)

With new games coming out, i would need at least GTX 970 or GTX 980 for better gaming experience.

At first i just plan to change VGA to GTX 970 or GTX 980. But with the intention to change that, i need higher power supply up to 850W for GTX 980. And for the MoBo, as mention, acer MoBo is not compatible. So i have to change that.

Any advice on upgrading beside the above intention is greatly appreciated.:s22:

500-600w psu is more than enough for 970/980. Also, 970 has much better price-performance ratio as compared to 980.

No point changing psu n gpu when ur mobo dun support. And if u change mobo, case may not fit.

SO, i highly recommend u overhaul everything.

By overhaul you mean change the new case and the move the new MoBo, VGA, Power Supply, and existing parts to new case?

Sorry for being noob in this.

I think I need to add new case in my budget :(.

Why would you have a problem upgrading the graphic card for the Acer Predator G3620?

I did upgraded one of the Acer Predator (can't remember G3620 or not) graphic card. Go to the BIOS and disable "secure boot" option, power down the machine then install the new graphic card. Power up the machine and install the new graphic card driver.

Provided the PSU can supply enough wattage for the GTX980, else upgrade the PSU first.

really? i did read in internet saying that is one of the method. but some user did reply that option only available to new acer predator.

my rig was like 3 years ago and i did ask acer support group and they reply that my MoBo does not support other vga card =(.

Trust us, it does but just that the Bios/Software thingy from the acer mobo is preventing other graphic card not owned by acer to work together.

yar, i was really dissapointed with the so called "Acer Predator Gaming Rig" with just GT 640.

I was naive back then and really regret in buying this rig.

Thats why i decided to upgrade the related part since the rest of the part is on high end side.

sad...is there really no other method to upgrade GPU for this crap?

Guess you may need a new motherboard then. Just asking, which Asus Sabertooth did you plan on buying? Asus has various Sabertooth motherboards based on different chipsets and it is imperative that you pick the one with the correct chipset.

Also, I do not think that you need to spend so much $$$ on an Asus Sabertooth since your i7 can't be OCed anyway. An Intel B75 motherboard will do just fine.

i was thinking, since im upgrading the related part, might as well upgrade it to the best (i know, thats a totally noob thoughts)

How about the following:
MoBo: ASUS Z97-A
VGA: ASUS GeForce GTX 970
Power Supply: Seasonic 650W

beside the above required to upgrade the VGA, is there anything else i need to consider? i really would like to play all the new games T T

Good Sir, your i7 3770 is not going to fit into the Asus Z97-A. You see, the i7 3770 is a socket 1155 CPU. However, Intel motherboards sold today are using Socket 1150 and thus the parts are incompatible. If you want a Socket 1155 motherboard, you must look for a H61, B75 or Z68/Z77 motherboard. However, since the introduction of Haswell CPUs, Intel Socket 1155 motherboards have been replaced by Intel 1150 motherboards and you will be hard pressed to find a Socket 1155 motherboard today.

However, shops in SLS may still have some leftover stocks of H61 motherboards if you do not mind using the budget H61 chipset. They may also have leftover stocks of Z77 motherboards, but they are rather expensive. You can also consider getting one from Amazon or Newegg as a last resort as they have stocks of Intel 1155 motherboards avaliable, but shipping may be a potential wallet killer.

Also, as your i7 cannot be OCed anyway, it is pointless to get the best motherboard avaliable as the full potential of the motherboard will not be utilised and a cheaper B75 motherboard will have the same performance as a top end Z77 motherboard in your usage scenario. Just get a motherboard with a H61 or B75 chipset.

Why when u wanna get new cpu, mobo, gpu, psu but not new casing? U really like the acer predator a lot? Seems like with this path, u left with rams, hdd, ssd to complete an overhaul... Im sure u can reuse the rams from old rig if its 8gb. Hdd can also reuse if u want, but if u dun have ssd, i strongly suggest getting.

1) No, most motherboards and CPUs are sold seperately. Only very low powered CPUs are then sold as a motherboard with integrated CPU. Anyway if you want to get a Haswell CPU, an i5 will be good enough for games.

2) The GTX 970 can be safely powered with a 500W PSU, no need for a 650W PSU.

3) If I remember correctly, st0ry88 has a similar system and problems as you and managed to source a B75 motherboard locally. Can try asking him on how to get one for yourself if you do not mind using a B75 motherboard.

650W is way too much. 500W is just nice, especially those with 80+ gold and higher.

Its not like i like the cover, but i try to salvage whatever is still usable. the case is still like brand new as i clean it always.

Maybe im not going to change CPU but following Alternative advice by going MoBo compatible with the existing I7-3770 + GTX 970 + 500W.

As long I am able to play the current games and mayb new games in the next 2 years....
