Remove Your Heatspreader with MSI - Delid Die Guard New Feature of Upcoming XPower AC
MSI just teased a new feature called Delid Die Guard. The Guard is a very simple tool to protect the CPU core after removing the heatspreader of the CPU. According to the shared picture, the Delid Die Guard will be part of the feature-set of the upcoming MSI XPower AC series.
looking forward to this nice innovation :D
What do you think? .... Only way to defeat the heat? thermal paste CLP... Way To GO!

With this, i only need to apply TIM on the long silver part only and mount my cpu block directly onto it?

If it happens that user did not insulate the FIVR after delidding (due to lack of knowledge of Haswell CPU-delidding), will the HSF/WC block metal base possibly short the FIVR?

Yes. Only need TIM on the die. Like laptop, slap paste and screw on heatsink, no IHS.

But wouldnt the delidded processor be shorter in height since there is no more IHS?

Some Cooler mounting post have specific hieight to prevent over tightening of the the cooler and these are design to just nice touch the IHS. Or you get those naked die coolers which are usually for WC.

for me is I delid using the wooden block method then apply CLP on the die, fix back the IHS and use MX4 to interface with water block

That's why MSI comes out with this 'die guard' to level out the bare processor die with the socket cap so all coolers can be used without facing the suspension gap issue when IHS is absent.

yes, as long as the "TIM" is not electrical conductive.
3rd party HSink can be mounted directly, but one thing do be careful is the pressure on the die.
I believe there is no warranty on MSi part for the intel chip if it does cracked.

Do note, I don't represent MSi as I am just a user like you.

The Die is higher than the FIVR. So no shorting.

To what I see in the picture, there is an empty space in the center..might be for 'added thin copper shim/spacer'...for your 3rd party HSink...not sure on this part.

After searching....found this...
The thickness of the brace puts it at the exact level of the surface of the chip (much like the support braces GPUs come with), and so it prevents heavy coolers (think chunky LN2 pots) from pressing too hard against the die, potentially breaking it. The feature could debut on MSI's upcoming M-Power motherboard based on the Z97 Express chipset.
