Introducing the ASUS next generation Broadcom 4x4 Tri Band (1x 2.4GHz + 2x 5GHz) router.

Sporting the same BCM 47094 1.4GHz dual cores CPU and 512MB RAM like the ASUS RT-AC88U but it's comes with 3x BCM 4366 (1x 2.4GHz + 2x 5GHz) and with 12x Low Distortion Power Amps to provide better than before (AC3200) WiFi performance up to 1.67X.

Without further ado, let's check out what the new ASUS RT-AC5300 has to offer.

It's huge and heavy

Dimension ~ (245 x 245 x 65 ~ mm (WxDxH) VS AC88U @ 11.8 (299.72mm) x 7.4 (187.96mm) x 3.3 (83.82mm) ~ inch (WxDxH) and (weight - 1814g VS AC88U @ 950g) nevertheless it's offering better thermals as shown later part of my posts.

Let me go through what's Broadcom's second generation Tri-band Smart Connect is all about?



Automatically chooses the best band available



Optimised by Device Speed

Smart Connect will automatically evaluate which devices data consumption and place in the various band.



Load Balancing

What's happens if more devices are add and thus that one of the 5GHz band get overloaded?



Smart connect will automatically moves that particular device to a less congested band.



Results?

All devices are getting their optimised speed as intended.

Important Note

The latest firmware (3.0.0.4.380.838 onwards for ASUS RT-AC5300) resolves the QIS SingTel VLAN profiles not applied correctly. It has been tested and QIS now works as intended.

Those SingTel Fiber Internet users with SingTel TV are strongly encouraged to update to this version before proceeding with the QIS or manual selection of the preset SingTel VLAN profiles.

Other ISPs AC5300 users need not update to this firmware version.

Aside to that, no mention on internal heat dissipation mechanism? Surely passive, but is it better than the one on AC88? Would presume so to account for that extra 900g in weight.
