Guys, anyone had AC-68? I am told it is more stable than the AC-87U. Maybe I switch to this model. I would appreciate if users can share your insights

Merlin 370.51 Beta is out .........

In AP mode ... more menu added.... and log improved..... GUI more easy to read.

378.51 Beta 1 (28-Feb-2015)
- IMPORTANT: The RT-N16 is no longer officially supported. The increased
number of separate router platforms is becoming too much of
a burden for one single developer, as some features must be
implemented 2-3 separate times for different architectures.
The RT-N16 support will remain in the source code, so other
developers can still compile their own builds, and possibly
take over for supporting this older platform. However, no new
features will be implemented, and it will no longer get
tested. I still welcome external contributions if
someone else wants to take care of testing and providing
fixes to new issues.
- NEW: Added support for the RT-AC3200.
- NEW: ARM support for Entware, using Zyxmon's Qnapware repository.
- NEW: Re-designed Wireless Log page displaying connected wireless
clients. The new page uses Ajax to automatically update
itself at a user-selected frequency, for near realtime
monitoring of your connected wifi clients.
- NEW: NAT loopback can now be chosen between Disable, Asus's original,
and Merlin's own (based on Phuzi0n's original DD-WRT design). The
option can be found on the Firewall page.
- CHANGED: Reverted RT-AC66U driver to previous version as some users
were experiencing stability issues with the 3754 version.
- CHANGED: Updated p910nd to 0.97 to resolve incomplete print jobs
(patch by stsichler)
- CHANGED: Updated Samba to 3.6.25
- CHANGED: The Entware setup scripts will now backup any existing
installation rather than remove it (patch by TeHashX)
- CHANGED: Re-implemented our original NAT loopback code, with attempts
at reconfiguring it whenever the DPI engine is restarted.
This is still experimental, as most of the DPI engine is
closed source, so unsure if the loopback gets re-enabled
in every regular DPI restart scenarios.
- CHANGED: Disabled the offline default error page. Clear your offline
content in your browser to fully get rid of it.
- CHANGED: Removed security warnings if FTP/Samba are configured to
allow unauthenticated users.
- FIXED: Issues when connecting with Russian ISPs relying on DHCP+VPN
(such as Beeline)
- FIXED: When enabling WAN access to webui, the router would always
forward both http and https ports regardless of if either of
these were disabled.
- FIXED: Shared printers over LPRng would sometime fail to
completely print the last page (patch by stsichler)
- FIXED: CVE-2015-0240 security issue in Samba 3.5.8 (used by
AiCloud). The main Samba daemon was patched by the
update to 3.6.25.

Really like the new interface for the wireless log. But then... devices cannot reconnect back, sigh, back to 2796 again. lol

Just made a request to RMerlin to create a special version with older 5 GHz driver for us to try out…

port 4
port 1 is open due to sharing with the 5GHz chip or something.

Maybe you wanna try swapping to different ports.

I've been using hggomes fork and the wireless log page is already updated to the one same as merlin's. 51 beta. But same, my ipad also won't cannot stay connected once it went into sleep mode.

Don't think he will..

Maybe you wanna try swapping to different ports.

I tried that, I disconnected every other device, everything, there is a major lag issue with asus firmware (also merlins due to him using asus base)
I tried to explain that with proof in that post, BUT NOBODY gets it!!!

Not only do we get lag with asus base firmware form ps4 I also see it when I play back my dvr on my ios device, dd-wrt is quicker.

Asus writes their firmware with some old code base that may be the problem (I do not know for sure, but merlin has stated Asus uses old something code base or something in the past a few times).

Now maybe its not that, maybe its all the trend stuff or other stuff that is causing it, but lag (delay) is there and now it is at an all time high.

Not only that, when I rebooted the router, all hell broke loose with Asus firmware, I had to go back into just about every section and toggle the changes off and on and apply, to get the asus firmware back to a norm.

Asus firmware has just gone to crap... and the stuff merlin is doing, some better and other stuff causes problems.
Merlins 50 or 51 beta every time I reboot or power cycle the router, I have to go to WAN and hit apply to get my WAN to work, then again everything else I change I have to toggle that setting and hit apply.

I can not be the only person getting these results. I had my friend reboot his router with official Asus firmware on and he too got wifi, lan, ect.. problems after, there is a major problem there also, I do not know what, maybe a design problem.

WIFI 5GHz has always been crap on this router, I just never payed attention till the holiday when I NEEDED it to stream a movie and the 5GHz dropped.

All I can say, maybe dd-wrt does not have the fastest (more than 450mbps) speed, but so far it is far more stable and useable.

AND yes I always flush the router really good going between the two. If it was not for dd-wrt, this router would be a door stop now.

Whatever firmware you use on this router DO NOT reboot or power cycle the router or you corrupt the firmware and need to flash and configure all over again, this I have found to be true in the past 2-3 months. Maybe by just going into each section and toggling and clicking apply will bring it all back MAYBE.

You all can believe this or not I don't care, all I know is I spent WAY too much time trying to get this to work and found all this to be facts.

EDIT:
My IPS sucks, but I have no other option, maybe that is why I see and feel lag a lot more than others, but there is still a major problem with asus firmware.

Last my wifi , ios or anything I have had no issues at all with dd-wrt firmware, for the record, I wake up and it just works. As long as I do not reboot this router.

New FW still never solve the issue ..........

For what it is worth, someone in the other forum posted new asus firmware, but it seems the same, BUT someone did a compare and said it was different with a deep compare.

Someone try it and post results, please.

http://www.asus.com/us/supportonly/RT-AC87R/HelpDesk_Download/

Funny thing is it says for R and there is a defferent section for U

Networking - RT-AC87U - ASUS

I did not know myself, we were all told by many that there is no difference, but why have two file locations and different date's??

Anyway I am sure someone will try it and tell us this one actually works perfectly:s22:

I think any version that after 2769 (with new 5Ghz driver) ... will not stable.... hence people tested the best stable is really 2769.

Well I hate to say something too early (as time will tell) BUT I am now 2 hours into the R version, that everyone still is saying is the same, BUT I have no ps4 lag so far still, BUT time will tell on lag and wifi issues, I will post back as soon as I have problems. And I do have an R router also:s22:

This could all be a coincidence or maybe (I am not going to say yet)

EDIT:
I was getting wifi loss, and it was brought to my attention that beamforming seems to work when all devices are in a particular line from the router, so I shut down 2.4 and 5GHz beamforming, will update if I get wifi loss again, I also noticed without qos enabled with my wife streaming dish network on ipad I was getting lag, so I activated qos and still at the moment lag free.

I am now into the morning here, and with QOS on, turn beamforming off (both bands), on official asus ac-rt87r firmware, still no ps4 lag!!!, and NO IOS or wifi issues, so far:s12:

I think the wifi issues is due to beamforming, as I was getting lots last night before I shut it down. Try it!!

Going to recontract with M1 soon and deciding between AC68U and AC87U.. read the last few pages and it seems that AC87U is still quite unstable as of now..?

I think you might have found the cause of the issue... :s41:

Btw, do you notice any change in Wireless 5GHz MAC address?

My LAN MAC address is XX:XX:XX:XX.93:80. Think the Wireless 5GHz MAC address change from XX:XX:XX:XX.93:84 to XX:XX:XX:XX.93:87.
