If you transfer multiple huge data files like a 1gigabyte video file often between your computers , then the gigabit version will be needed to give that extra boost. If you only transfer small files often like multiple megabyte mp3 files, then you can save a little money with the 100mbps one.

Gigabit can only be implemented on usb3 because the older and slower usb2 does not have enough bandwidth.

Simple answer : get the gigabit usb3 version.

Hi folks, total tech idiot here. My Acer Predator desktop NIC got fried during a thunderstorm despite being plugged into an electrical outlet with a surge protector.
The NICs available at SIM LIM are rather ex and I have no idea how to go about installing it to begin with. Are there other cheaper ways to get to get connected to the internet. Can a D-link ethernet adapter be used in place of an NIC in this case. I'd like to restore both the wired and wireless function. Any input is greatly appreciated.

This model requires dismantling of the CPU. Can anyone recommend one that doesn't

I have used a Rosewill USB 3.0 dongle (review here: Rosewill USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Dongle | Zit Seng's Blog). Pretty decent performance.

Thanks for your recommendation. Thot of getting a dongle but the fibre broadband I'll be getting is only 100 M and mine is an old Predator desktop, not sure if the Rosewill dongle will work in my case. Hoping to find an external NIC for desktops that can connect to both wireless and wired network if such a device exists.
