Why can't I switch from MR to M1 easily?

Each TP has two fibre ports. Each fibre port needs to connect to a ONT. Each ONT typically has 4 Ethernet ports. Technically, it is possible for you to subscribe to two different ISPs on the same ONT connected on one fibre port. (I have done this before.) Technically, you _could_ sign up 8 different NGNBN plans via two 4-port ONTs on two fibre ports. Politically, it is far more complicated.

I posted about our NGNBN infra some years ago (Inside Singapore’s OpenNet | Zit Seng's Blog). It's old, but the conceptual idea is still relevant. These days, there are many OpCos. Officially there is only one NetCo (but unofficially... ahem...).

port 2 is not opened, must wait for opennet to open it.

Sucky solution now is to wait till your M1 line is up before disconnecting your MR service

Thank you everybody
I figured out already what is happening after calling Opennet.
For the current isp to free up the port they're holding on your existing contract, it takes 2-3 weeks. New isp to take over the port that you're going to sign, it takes another 2-3 weeks. The entire process of switching isp and handing over the port from 1 isp to another can take up to a month.

I don't get is this fibre is new and superior technology right? But why does the entire process of changing isp seem so time-consuming and backward compared to the old broadband technology. And the whole confusion of being given a point with 2 ports but yet both ports are not readily usable, I mean...

And there are so many appointments to keep to if I wanna sign with another isp. Opennet ppl needs to come again to check the port (for what???) then M1 ppl will come again on another day with their isp installation. This is a nightmare. Really sucks

i suppose the best solution for u is set up the M1 first. Once it's running, then terminate the old one. As stated in an earlier post, someone said Opennet takes abt 20 days to activate 2nd port. Still slow but at least less processes involved.

OLD NC Plan...

SH+MR+M1 on ONE fiber max to 1gbps speed...
thus MR got lazy and offer 1gbps.... for peanuts.... so no need to config so many systems....

i subscribed to M1 today. M1 arrange with Opennet to activate Port 2 next week. A few days later, M1 personnel will install modem. So it's not as long as it seems.

The delay is when u want to terminate first or have no available ports. Once my M1 is up, i'll then terminate Singtel. M1 is giving a free n56 router too.

I have move from MR to M1.

For me, opennet ppl did not need to come to my house as they just come and patch (activate the 2nd port) the fiber outside my house.

For the termination process, I have submitted my termination request 2 weeks before I sign up for M1. Till today (1 month later & I am using M1 connection now), MR has not get back to me on the termination process and they still dare to charge my credit card (file a chargeback with my bank and I have requested for termination already).

Can actually top up a bit to get their ASUS AC56S which is an AC router. Just need to call 1627.

Hi guys,

Sharing of my port 2 activation. Signed up with SH on Sunday and booked appointment with Opennet to activate port 2 on Thursday morning. The booking with Opennet is done on the spot by the SH staff when I am at SH shop.

On Thursday morning, Opennet staff came to my house and use a red laser pointer and attached to port 2 at my TP. Then he went to my riser duct and traced my port 2 optical fibre cable emitting the red light and fused with one of the block's spare optical fibre cable. Next he proceed to the level 2 riser duct directly below my unit. However there's a minor hiccup. My block's riser ducts are all enclosed by a door which need a key to open. And this level 2 unit's riser ducts are closed and no one is at home. So work is stopped and the contractor left. Later in the afternoon, the level 2 owner returned and I managed to get him to open his riser duct. The contractor came back and fused the optical fiber cables. Nearly turned out to be a day of wasted leave for me.

I didn't know need to do 2 fusions. I only thought the fusion is outside my house. For those of you whose riser ducts need key to open, do take note where is the riser box located for your units in the same stack. Opennet will need access to this common riser box and as well as the riser duct outside your house. All this info is not communicated to me by SH staff.

Isn't ADSL even worse? There's only one physical line that needs to be re-connected to another ISP, whereas fibre has two terminal points that can be connected to separate ISPs so at least one service can be provided while waiting for the other.
