I'm wondering if anyone else's iphone 7 plus matte black is having issues with the black coating peeling off on its own (I've not dropped or knocked my phone).

It started to peel off around the speaker hole cutout. Happening around the right screw at the bottom of the phone as well.

NPNT, right? So here's what's happening to mine.

Tried to contact Apple but they say it's not a known problem and will treat it as accidental damage.

So far, I've only come across this other reddit thread with a similar issue.

Okay.. NO more Matte Black for me.
Decided to go for Jet Black.

I feel that the material for Matte Black is same as the iPhone 5 slate color.
My iPhone 5 last time also have this issue, then after that I go M1 do a 1 to 1 exchange.

I'm going to bring it down to Apple Service Center but I'm not hopeful that they will replace it. As you've mentioned, they will probably tell me cosmetic damage or accidental damage.

I just wanted to find out if I'm an isolated case or if anyone else is experiencing a similar problem.

It's like buying a new car and the paint comes off... and dealer tells you it's not covered. It's really a manufacturing-related problem that is being classified as cosmetic damage.

Same here apparently. I can see a few small bumps around the peel so foresee that it will be worst in months to come.

This is a known issue since iPhone 6. Happens to all the colours. Apple won't acknowledge the issue.

not true, both my iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, I bought space grey for both, no issues of paint coming out

as for both my iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, I bought gold for both, no issues of paint coming out as well.

I think its the painting issue, just like the iPhone 5, pain peeling off for slate colour.

I am using the iPhone 7+ matte black for about a month now, and I don't have this issue. Touch wood.

Previously I was on iPhone 6+ and the 6S+ for a year each, also did not encounter such issue.

I think is see u heng or sway.
probably I had the back protector for my iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6S Plus that's why I don't have this issue.

Both my iPhone 7 and 7 Plus Jet Black will have the back protector too.

Not true, i had a iphone 6 gold and the paint came off.

Just because you never encounter, doesn't mean it's "not true" or "will never happen".

And jet black is not saint, micro abrasion is real on this phone.

I encounter on my iPhone 5 though.. end up I go M1 change my iPhone 5 just because of the pain dropped.

They allow me to change. :D
