Back with new findings on the 9.0.0.4.309 firmware

DSC01063_zps6a7945ef.jpg

Sporting with a new 3.0.0.x UI, with WRT. It's a joy to see ASUS are serious and doing a fantastic job in rolling out their universal ASUSWRT for their black diamond routers

It's nice to see more VLAN profiles included ^^

Setting up is a breeze, i'm just using QIS to configure, a few clicks and it's done

So, how does it fare? Speedtest?

Speedtest ~ Wired
Firefox 19.0
SingTel 200mbps

NewMedia Express

Telin

Viewqwest

Download is erratic with SingTel performing > 200Mbps and Telin/Viewqwest performing badly but upload is pretty consistent for all. Hmm.....

Stay tuned for more findings

Speedtest ~ Wired using my ASUS RT-AC66U

Results have shown that the download speed is in tandem with those with ASUS RT-N15U

Either those SpeedTest servers got hammered badly or something is wrong with SingTel :s13:

So far, this firmware is performing well

Back with more with ViewQwest Internet Fiber findings shortly

All downloads are consistent less Telin, something is wrong with Telin with VQ now :s13:

hi
i'm a total noobie
so can I ask, if I am only using wired access (no wireless) is the Asus N56U better than the N15U? Are the only differences the firmware and wireless speed?

Yes, the ASUS RT-N56U hardware specifications > the ASUS RT-N15U, simultaneous data session of 300000 as compared to 30000 etc

You can always compared both @ ASUS - Networks

but what does simultaneous data transfer mean? If I am a single user will it have any impact on me? What does a higher number allow you to do?

Simultaneous data transfer means the router has the ability to let you run multiple applications that require Internet connection and sustain it without bottle necking the router (i.e you might be running bittorrent/p2p programs in the background (intensive) while you still can surf/youtube/facebook with ease

Revisitng ASUS RT-N15U

Revisiting ASUS RT-N15U again :s8:

Some users are a funny lot, they have zero knowledge on settings about networking configuration/settings but they are damn pro in Speedtest :s13: why my figure can't reach what my subscribed plan? Do you know all ISP/RSP are best effort in providing you up to what you get, whatever over-provisioned or not.

Don't like it? change ISP loh or pay more to have service level agreement in place :s13:

Or blame on the router performing poorly :s13: if you ask nicely, people will definitely help you or at least help you narrow down what are the possible causes and help to provide you with possible solutions, and don't "WAH, my router is a lemon set" For your information, ASUS networking is backed with 3 years warranty locally, 1~1

PS ~> I'm not an employee of ASUS SG/TW but i'm one of member in the ASUS SG/TW Open Platform Power User team

If you don't know what is a power user means, let me quote from Wiki

Power user - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Power user can also be a marketing term referring to a computer user who seeks and uses products having the most features and the fastest performance.

Back with speedresults from both my SingTel Fiber 200Mbps and ViewQwest 300Mbps using ASUS RT-15U

As reiterated before, the ASUS RT-N15U is more than capable running > 100ish Mbps easily even besting 200Mbps with upload > 60Mbps

Sorry i have to delay posting my 300Mbps ViewQwest Fiber local speedtest results for the time being as the ASUS RT-15U beta firmware function Clone Mac address is broken, i will need to get back to ASUS to fix it first :s22: It's needed for ViewQwest Fiber

Meanwhile enjoy some blazing speedtest numbers from ViewQwest using the ASUS RT-AC66U

sorry, so any best settings that you would recommend for this router?

am on MR 150mbps PURE HD plan. the connection is:

wireless - ONT-router-laptop
wired - ONT-router-aztech 500mbps-desktop

speed wise for wireless is ard 40mpbs, WPA2-Personal, AES

Any other settings that will help for wired? (if ONT direct, speed can reach 120-150, but ONT-Router-latptop, is around 80mpbs)
