I was kinda being asked to assist to look into ASUS RT-15U general /wireless performance with MyRepublic
In light of MyRepublic are bundling ASUS RT-15U with their fiber plans and since i'm using my SingTel Fiber 200Mbps for my testing + MyRepublic is mostly offering 100Mbps plan. My plan should suffice kinda 2x over.

It's not about comparing SingTel with MyRepublic

Do note that i'm not an employee of MyRepublic or ASUS SG so any results shown are purely for illustrations on the capabilities of the ASUS RT-15U
I will be using my ASUS RT-AC66U for comparison as well

Most of the time, it's the users own misconception/poor knowledge/weird settings that result wireless poor performance or even at times users are just asking too much on what a basic single band 2T/2TR internal antenna router are able to provide ~> TOP SPEED and superb wireless range :s13:

A good simple read posted by MyRepublic for those whom want to understand more

Do note that the internal firmware 2.1.1.1.79 is for testing purposes. It's not downloadable on ASUS

From what my observations/results have shown,

As for wired

RT-AC66U > RT-15U due to better CPU spec/operating speed/maximum simultaneous session, some might find it's not negligible as both are in excess of 100Mbps
but do bear in mind when there are multiple users/devices are in used simultaneously with heavy downloading/P2P, it's where RT-N66U/AC-66U thoroughly shine

As for my wireless it's performing best @ auto/20MHz while using the ASUS RT-15U

Needless to say, it's even better performing when on 2.4GHz on the AC-66U (3T/3R)

And of cos the best gain is on 5GHz

Conclusion

Get a dual band router at least and one should consider when they should be using 5GHz for better throughput/heavy downloading i.e. ~ laptop devices and 2.4GHz for better range reserved for light web surfing/youtubing

Feel free to add on and discuss

So I should just dump my n15U and get either n66 or even AC66 right? :)

I have been having problems of decreasing bandwidths over a few days ever since my Engenius was replaced by the n15u on my wired connection. I have to constantly reboot the n15u before the speed goes back up. I'm on the Pure plan, so the drop from 90+ to 20+ Mbps is obvious (and painful).

One simple question? :p are you are heavy Internet user? ;)

If you are you might want to consider getting the ASUS RT-56U class routers onwards at the very least and segregate your 2.4GHz/5GHz usage if you are a mobile wireless fanatic

SITEX is coming next week so just keep a lookout for better deals or promotions

PS ~> My test ASUS-RT15U unit has already passed 1 day running mark and haven't show any symptoms speed degradation as you have mentioned (both wired and wireless)

I think MyRepublic should be capable in assisting you to resolve your issues

Relatively heavy I supposed. :)

It seems like my n15u is a lemon, so I will just upgrade it to the n66u when the Sitex promo kicks in.

erm, you have to ensure your wireless adaptor can utilize the dual-band. :)

sad to say, RT-N15U is just 2.4Ghz. no 5Ghz, no dual band. too much WLAN traffic conflicts we have in my place for 2.4Ghz. i should have gotten N56U for the dual band capability, and I will exclusively use the 5Ghz myself, but its too late.

You're only getting 150 Mbps wired??? Not a good starting point for testing, personally I'd be sorting that out first.

Roger, that's why it's a preliminaries finding :D i will re-look into it with a newer firmware shortly (too many internal firmware lol)

Will update the thread accordingly
