Hi All,

I read through the forum, however still abit blur. So if anyone can drop me some points.

And very sorry for the list of questions i have:

1) Can i link it this way : TP --ONT--8 port wifi router (and having 6 port direct to faceplate wall mount)

or

2) TP-- ONT -- 4 port wifi router--02 X 06 patch panel (and having 6 port direct to faceplate wall mount)

It a old house doing full reno, also knowing telephone line is Daisy Chain, so like to use on old telephone port( cat3 only 2 wire use ) to broadcast it out..able to do that????

Thank you all for your contribution.

full reno might as well lay new cat6 cables in every room. 1 box 300m of 3M cat6 cost only $120+.

if u wanna use a 8-port router, u gotta be sure u buy 8-port router all the way.. if not, you will have 2 extra cables nowhere to connect if u use a 4-port router next time.

if i'm not wrong, faceplates come in 4 maximum per square. never see a 6 plate before..

i suggest you wire up a 4-port face plate instead bah.. unless u have lobang for 6 plate installation, and the cable trunking will be very thick as u are using cat6, if not got for 4 port face plate with cat 6 bah..

thank you for the advice, yes it will be 8 port router all the way or more ....as i have all wire(trunking) lay on the floor as i hacking it away

The wifi 8 port router will wall mount on the ceiling close to the room.

But may ask can i change one of the telephone port which is Cat3 to broadcast the signal out ( modem telephone line plug to one of the wall stock and rest 3 rooms will get the signal, so i can shift my phone or every room one phone also ok)

of cos u can do that, but u need to get a contractor to do the re-wiring for you because all the telephone jacks in your house are linked together and it runs from the house to the riser outside.

Thank you, for your post....yes wiring under the floor cos resale flat, hacking away the flooring so using PVC trucking/flexible conduit pipe (if the wiring is damage at lease i still can change) ...
As for ceiling mount my wifi(8 port) near my room is the room need better signal for the rooms....

I have one Cat6 pull back to the living for the TV and a spare for future to expend network.... ( my this lay out is to cut short the routing wiring to the living room and also for me to easily replace cable )...hoping this does not cost me more then $500 for cabling with faceplate ....as i intend to buy RT-AC88U to support the house network(sure able to get good signal in rooms as no need to worries how many pillar and walls)

if you're going to mount your router to the ceiling then I would strongly advise in getting a dedicated switch for your entire network instead of using the switch ports of your router. place the switch somewhere that it is easily accessible to you and terminate all the network points from there. just in case you need to troubleshoot your network you will have easy access to it than having to reach the router at the ceiling.

also I don't like the idea that the router is in the ceiling, you better use an accesspoint in its place instead and place the router near to your ont.

Move the AP to the Centre. Along walkway.

Remember to install power point there.

Thank you for the advice, sorry as a newbie a read other post ...if i getting a switch....isit to say that my connection will be ...ont--router---switch port? And wont that be doubling the numbrrs of wire?

For placing the router near the ont meaning it will be near thd living room and signal to the rooms will be weak...as this is what i have been exprencing now

ont --- router --- dedicated switch --- devices

all network points, devices connects to your dedicated switch using lan cable including your router.

you need a router (with or without wifi) to connect to the internet and an access point at the ceiling near to the rooms for your wireless lan connections.

actually you can try this. im thinking of doing this for my house as well but i do not know if the ont - cables from faceplate will work. or does it need to go through a router

TP- ONT - SWITCH (if your ont doesnt have enough port )- DB BOX with face plate

Put ur router in the middle of the hse, 1 of the bedroom. wireless will be share equally

Hi Carbine90, sorry as my best knowledge is all ONT have 4 port but onlt on port works, unless u get myrepublic dual boardband ($59mthly) and 2 port work (That i might getting in future)

Oh for me my main confuse is must a CAT6 cable plug to router to faceplate to extend to the room faceplate..OR I can have the room faceplate and the other end of the cable is a RJ45 connector directly plug to my router.

Last but not least do I need a patch panel ??? if it only for managing cable then i feel it not a must ...if network switch to widen network for future i might consider..

For now each room have 2 port, That intend to give my children one for TV and one spare if they want direct connection or they can by switch to split the network in there room( of cos that will reduce speed but is their choice)

For printer wise it will be at the living room using wireless or i get them using home network to print document..see the below layout
