Hi,

so I looked for the right settings, in this forum and elsewhere, to get my N56u connected directly to the ONT and could not find it in one place. so I played around a bit and got it to work. This is what I did (now I can get rid of the horrible Huawei RG).

Note: I don't do VoIP, so have not tested that. just need Internet in my setup and that works (posting using the new setup).

Hopefully, this will help other people

steps

1) connect ONT to WAN port on N56U (my firmware is 1.0.1.8d-p3. not sure that this makes a difference)

2) configure the following under WAN in advanced settings (on the N56U)

under "Special Requirement from ISP"

Select ISP (VLAN Mode): Manual VLAN Filter + Partitions (Manual VLAN did not work for some reason)

Internet: VID 1071 PRIO 1
IPTV (LAN 4): VID 1099 PRIO 1
VoIP (LAN 3): VID 1095 PRIO 1
Authentication: disable
VPN Server: <left blank>
Host Name: S/N of RG. found on sticker on RG
MAC Address: MTA MAC of RG. found on sticker on RG. Device MAC did not work

you might have to change the internet VID if you have higher capacity plans

Hope this helps someone

was forced to do this, b.t.w., because the LAN ports on the RG failed yesterday (for some reason). other devices see every port as 10Mbp half duplex and DHCP fails.

multiple reboots and debugging attempts failed. So decided to connect the N56U directly to the ONT. Was connecting my N56u to the RG via the LAN ports previously.

Actually an N56U firmware preset for SH is already in the works ;)

Please explain more in details on the firmware on N56U, does it mean that when I get one box from any retail shop it should have the latest firmware and it will work with ONT for Starhub?

Please let me know if this configuration for 100MBps or 150MBps speed? BTW do you by any chance to have all the IDs?

Nope. Asus is working on it. If you want to get it up and running now, you have to use manual settings with the VID. I think bigwoof is using modified 3rd party firmware which may explain the difference he is experiencing.

All VLAN info can be found here.

For MIF Ultimate, Internet VLAN is confirmed 1071 (Prio 1).

Thanks, btw The official 1.0.1.8d works also, use 'manual VLAN'

Well, it should, I am suspecting the one in the modified firmware doesnt from bigwoof's account. Havent tried the modified firmware.

Sorry to burst your bubble but i believe the VOIP won't work unless you use a 3rd party voice gateway. At least when tested with 1.0.1.7 .

This is because the firmware strips the VLAN header from that port on egress (going out) . This means you can't connect the RG to the 56u unless Asus presets it like M1 and Singtel.

So it's not a complete replacement yet. We knew that you could manually set the VLAN for internet to work but the main thing was getting it to keep voice on the RG

TS, sorry but what did you mean by that?

Overall you got SH ONT to work directly with N56U though, yes?

sian max... I nidda support for VOIP... my family members all using my MIF's digital voice. >.<"

Hope Asus listens to my prayers.
If they managed a link to Starhub's VOIP, I'm so going over to N56U.
