For all the gloom and doom you sometimes see on this forum, there's a number of us still happy enough with the service.

ipv6 for residential users

Hi,

I wanted to setup ipv6. After some research on this forum I found some old information that you had to request an ipv6 address directly from ther support line ... I just did so and as usual the support was very responsive. The answer however was quite disapointing :

We apologise however we do not provide IPV6 for our residential accounts. We are running on IPV4.

I would have expected an ISP that is targeted to techies to offer ipv6 ... Even starhub was offering this years ago.

Viewqwest used to offer IPV6 initially for residential customers but few years back, they have stopped supporting it for residential customers

yeah it's a shame. I don't know why on earth an ISP would do that considering the scarity of IPv4 addresses. Indeed almost all other ISP's WW are doing the exact oposit.

seems like a pure commercial move to differentiate the residential from the corporate business. I wish they made it clear in their FAQ. I will most probably have to look at another ISP next time I renew :-(

We have not given up on IPv6, it's just not that easy to do with our current vendors. We'll update you guys again when it's ready (sorry, don't have a timeline so not sure when that will be though).

Hey viewqwest can reply your PM or not?

Hey zip,

Sorry just tried to reply to PM but it says you turned off the ability to receive PMs? (or maybe your inbox is full?).

What's up?

Huh, no I have not disabled PM... I just sent you another.

Got it and replied.

You can watch Netflix U.S with Freedom DNS (just make sure to let us know that you want Netflix U.S rather than Netflix SG when you sign up).

Hey VQ, what's wrong with your billing department? Send email for days and yet they never reply?

I had some billing enquiries and i called the billing hotline.

I was informed by the billing staff that in the email title, you should include your customer number and name, followed by your purpose

eg

A1234567 Tan Ah Kow Change of Credit Card

This way, they can respond more efficiently

Oh, and they usually take 2 or more working days to respond

my router just lost connection to the VQ DNS server, AGAIN, this is like the 4th time in one week already.

What's up with your DNS servers? I switched to Google DNS 8.8.8.8 and my internet works just fine.

Hai. VQ customer service is really clueless nowadays.

Called in, a local girl called Ada picked up. Told her my issue, and asked her if she could provide me the FreedomDNS DNS Server IP addresses for me to key in manually.

She put me on hold for nearly 15 mins, then told me she'd call me back. Waited an hour and she didn't.

I called back in, told her "these IP addresses can be easily found from any of your colleagues", she asked someone and told me the IP within 30 seconds.

Sigh. Used to be the gold standard.

Going through the same BS these days. I miss those good ol' days where VQ was able to provide both reliable Internet and responsive customer service.

Well.....if you head over to the Viewqwest Fibernet Forum, the Freedom DNS address are clear stated.......in the Freedom DNS thread......no need to call VQ to ask at all.......

Edit: so let me get this right..... you have problems with Freedom DNS so you confgured to Google DNS and now you want to get back to the Freedom DNS?

You'd probably have better luck calling them. Anyway I wish you the best with them. Their billing department seriously CMI and has caused me to puke blood before in the past on several occasions.

Their NOC is still ok, at least their guys know what they are doing. Getting hold of them is another story though, but to be fair its not the staff's fault if mgmt is "clever" enough to use IP phone for customer service hotline and once internet is down so is the phone line. :s22:

Yes bro cause I'm paying for freedom dns to watch things like Hulu.

If I manually set the dns IP it works fine. But if I set my router to auto (which is supposed to work seamlessly, that's the whole idea of getting VQ for me as well as my parents instead of m1 and a third party dns), it loses connection sometimes.

Noted on your pt about fiber net forums, but not every VQ user is an enthusiast that readily subscribes and jumps thru hoops to find out something so simple, if u know that, should a technical CS know that? Instead of taking so long to call me back and not even asking around for such a simple request.

Seriously the CS standards seemed to have dropped to st, sh and m1 standards. There's really no differentiator already.

At night the speeds aren't amazing anymore also, the BT slows down during peak hours, and there's noticeable delay even in surfing websites.

Sigh. Been a loyal customer for over 4 years but there are so many factors pushing me towards m1 at the end of my contract. Half the price and same/better experience.
