I bought the above set in January this year. About 3-4 months into using it, I started to notice the casing around the left hinge opening up a bit. I didn't suspect anything much as I could close it easily plus there is no Dell service centre here to verify if it's a problem. Then just a week ago, the casing opened up suddenly when I was holding the laptop by the chassis with the screen opened up. To my surprise, the hinge had actually come out from the chassis. On closer observation, the mounting screw studs(if that's what they are called) have lifted out from the chassis (circled in red in photo). I've contacted Dell but was told that this was not covered under warranty. The tech support guy even assumed that I opened up the screen from the right side only, causing the left hinge to come out. I've been using laptops for a long time and I never do that. Experience would tell u to lift the lid up from the middle. I see this as a defect but Dell doesn't want to acknowledge this.

The WiFi connectivity has also been affected by the casing opening up. I get connections intermittently only. This is my first Dell laptop and probably it will be my last. I have had no such issues with other laptops like Asus, Acer, HP and even my old white MacBook before.

What else can I do besides pay for the repair which would most likely be for replacing the chassis?
