Have you personally checked with Dell Singapore whether they will honor the warranty of the laptop if you change to IPS screen?

its an IPS screen lol
https://youtu.be/2OweKQp9OX8

the model of the panel is the AUO B156HAN01.2
http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/NEW-Au-O...559925?hash=item566fe66e35:g:FwkAAOSwstxVQOCp (as seen in the description of the youtube video i linked above.)

Oh okay. :s13::s13: I am sure it is still way better than the stock panel which the 7567 ships with. But yeah, it's best if you replace the panel after the warranty runs out.

That aside, for those who have purchased either the FX553 or Pavilion 15, care to comment on what you like or dislike about them? Don't see many reviews online as these two models are relatively new.

yo bleeder I went to Sim Lim Square just now and I took a video of the display and viewing angles for you and other interested parties to know. straight on, the colors are as good (or bad) as the Inspiron's). Closing the laptop, the display discolours as fast as the Inspiron does but opening the laptop, the colours retain their accuracy, as well as moving side to side. I didn't record the 7566 (the one with the GTX960M but same panel as the 7567) as I assumed there are plenty of videos showing the discoloration. will upload and edit this post with the video link when I reach home.

EDIT: https://youtu.be/5ypsn8MhMnw Here's the video as promised. Hopefully the strange looks I got from the ASUS employees were worth it HAHA

Wow, really appreciate the effort dude. Thanks much! I'm honestly impressed by the Asus screen and it's hard to believe that the FX553 is fitted with a TN panel. Based on what I can see from your vid, both colour and contrast shifts are minimal, vertically and horizontally. Looks like the odds just swung in Asus' favour haha.

I would advise against drawing a conclusion for now, better to judge with your own eyes at the roadshow.

These are just my preliminary assumptions. Will inspect each model at the roadshow before I decide. For now, the FX553 seems like the better option.

Nah I doubt YouTube or your camera would enhance the video to that extent. Asus is touting the FX553's wide viewing angle on their product page. There must be some truth to it else they'd just be shooting themselves in the foot. 😁😁

This really depends on it been profitable or not. but most of them if u want such options really depends on the models as well.

laptop in poly (usually) wont have any huge extra upgrade beside ram (maybe another 8GB ram upgrade)

haha I guess so. because some cameras really make the Dell's display look like utter garbage but irl it's actually pretty okay. I compared it to the HP Pavilion 15's and felt it was around the same. but I didn't check out the viewing angles of the pavilion la

I don't know man. I've inspected the Inspiron before and I think the viewing angles are really bad. Same goes for the VX15 by Acer.

I don't think HP and Acer offer any upgrade options. Asiapac is the only distributor which offers memory add-ons for the 3 ASUS laptops.

P.S. Just to be clear, I am referring to these 3 vendors listed here.

Just purchased the Inspiron 7567 today. 1590 with 3 year onsite warranty. I've heard horror stories about the display but the battery life is amazing. For those interested, contact dell saying you're a student and they'll send you a quote via email (I can forward an example to you guys, PM me your email address). The price on the website with 1 year on site warranty is 1599. For those who don't need the 3 year warranty, after you contact support, they'll slash 100 bucks off and it'll be 1500.

the i5 or the i7 variant?

Took a quick look, the HP Probook really looks like a no brainer (to me). 3-year NBD plus 3-year warranty on the battery. Even my $2k Dell doesn't have 3-yr on battery. Though I guess teens will look at the Pavilion/FX533 price:spec ratio and see it as a no brainer

The only thing is that HP kept the trend of using crap TN on their probooks - https://www.notebookcheck.net/HP-ProBook-440-G4-Core-i7-Full-HD-Notebook-Review.191099.0.html
