[Review] The Big Budget 3: AMD Richland 6800K with Asus F2A85-M and Asus 7750

AMD Richland 6800K Elite APU

AMD Richland 6800K is the second iteration of APUs based on FM2 platform. The main focus of AMD APUs are value for money while not compromising the performance and overall experience of the consumer. With AMD 6800K you get a quad core unlocked processor union with an awesome very capable igpu 8670D.

I am suprised to see MEM-OK button for a budget motherboard, ASUS really does not compromise on features even on their budget motherboards.

This GPU Boost switch does not only automatically overclocks your iGPU but also the processor too. this is a very easy way and fuss free overclocking especially if you are just starting in overclocking.

Asus HD 7750

this budget gpu does not require a pci-e power and the size of the gpu is ideal for mATX and mITX build.

Sleek 28nm card with GPU Tweak

Premium alloys inside power delivery components defeat the heat for cards that run better, cooler, and longer than reference.
Get an instant upgrade with no messy power cables. This means the HD7750-T-1GD5 draws all its energy needs directly from the PCI Express slot, leading to a neat yet powerful graphics configuration.
Dust-proof Fan design increases particle resistance and extends card lifespan by up to 25% longer than reference.
GPU Tweak utility helps you modify and tune clock speeds, voltages, and fan performance via an intuitive interface.

This GPU may have one PCI-E slot but it still occupies 2 PCI-E slot due to its cooler.

Benchmarking and Real world performance

Setup:

Mobo: F2A85-M
Processor: AMD 6800K Elite APU (Turbo Core off @ 4.2Ghz)
GPU: Asus HD 7750 1GB crossfire with iGPU 8670D
RAM: 2x4GB 2133Mhz Patriot Viper IEM
HDD: 160 GB Hitachi
PSU: SuperFlower Golden King 750w

This is the result of a Performance Benchmark for 3D Mark 11 with iGPU vs 7750 vs Crossfire. as you can see although it did not double the score from a 7750 but it surpasses the score for a 7770 and almost at the range of a 6870 to 560ti GPU. this is an awesome performance boost indeed not only to the iGPU but to the 7750 as well. This really shows how you can build a value for money from AMD with really good performance.

From the results above it really shows that combining 8670D with 7750 really is a good setup. you can play (30fps above) 3D intensive game in a decent FPS. you get 30fps and above when set to medium to high settings, there are stuttering issues though but all dual GPUs have that issue.

Temperature check on Asus F2A85-M and Asus 7750

As you can see on the video even though the VRMs don't have a heatsink and the fact that I am running all four cores at 4.2Ghz is still very cool so nothing to worry here. This motherboard can handle a decent overclock. The GPUs PCB is also very cool which shows the quality of components used.

My Take:

AMD 6800K Elite APU:

This APU do have significant performance improvements over its older brother Trinity 5800K. This APU will truly shine if you pair it up with an entry level AMD GPU like 6670 and especially 7750. For gaming the piledriver once it is overclock just even at a mere 4.2Ghz is already enough to take care of gaming at a decent FPS. Although the 6800K is already clocked very high there is still a lot of OC headroom you just need to have a good cooler to tame the heat that this APU is emitting. Another feature value for this is that even if you dont have a dedicated GPU you can still enjoy the AMD Eyefinity with 3 monitors given that your motherboard do support 3 or more display port.

Asus F2A85-M

This motherboard in particular is mainly intended for budget consumers, you get the basic or should I say a bit more of the basic features. With support for crossfirex, 6 sata ports and several USB 3s I say this is a value for money motherboard. In terms of performance it does not shy away, even with naked VRMs it is very capable of overclocking either Trinity 5800K or Richland 6800K. it has several ROG exclusive features which is very good to see in a budget motherboard. If you are looking for a good price/performance motherboard this can be one of your list.

Asus HD 7750 1GB

The GPU is very good to pair with AMD 6800K Elite APU as it is compatible thus extending the performance of this GPU once crossfired with the iGPU 6870D. it is a quiet GPU with no need of external PCI-E power which is very good. the GPU is made of quality components and does not get very hot when playing 3D intensive games which is good especially if you plan to use this is a very small casing.

The Big Budget 3

If you are looking for a decent gaming rig performer but does have a limited budget, I would recommend to go with this build. With this build in terms of gaming you are nearing the performance of a GTX 560ti running on an Intel i5 which will cost you a bit and as for the performance of daily usage it is good enough especially once overclock above 4.1Ghz.

mobo+proc = around 280ish to 300ish
GPU= 150ish to 160ish

power supply mine is 750w so not really practical but you can buy FSP 300w at around 40ish
