For a start, you can go to Seagate's website and look for their SG hotline.

thats the thing ... i am not able to get a sg hotline no. to call. Or maybe i am blind .. but if someone has the no, pls tell me... thanks !!!

I had to use the chat feature & finally after 3 long days i managed to chat with someone from the so called tech support & all he could say was my cable is faulty.

Hi guys.. i managed to unbricked my Seagate 1TB, 7200.11, ST3100034AS.

Problem: undetected by BIOS, BSY state.

If you have similar problem, try this link :s8:

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=128807

i used a CA-42 cable (old Nokia USB cable). DKU-5 may work as well.
bro singingbard,

read here that u have mangaed to unbrick your Seagate7200 .... can help me with mine ??

read the link u have posted in my Seagate brick thread and looks too daunting for me .

thanks

yo Godzilla,

i'd be glad to guide you. you're not the first person to approach me and I mentioned it so that I can offer my experience to locals who has had similar frustration with a 7200.11 HDD caught in BSY state. :(

i too was initially overwhelmed by the thread...:s22: but it is not that bad lah.

So you have a bricked 7200.11... should you RMA? What about exposing your personal files to strangers for data recovery? Even if you did RMA, you'll get another 7200.11 replacement, how confident are you in the new drive? :(

In other words... i was convinced i've got nothing to lose, so why not give it a shot? :s8:

Honestly, I didn't spend more than S$10. ;)

If you're keen, reply thread. We can keep this discussion open in the forum so that others may refer to it.

Let me first state that I'm no pro, and just your average chap who DIYs his own comp. What i learn, i only read from http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=128807
But I can direct you to get the parts necessary in Singapore. :s7:

You'll need to get 3 things:

(1) RS232-TTL device: luckily the old Nokia CA-42 data cable has a device inside that'll work. But CA-42 is hard to find in shops now... also, some bought imitation cables without the necessary chip inside. I got it on ebay at S$5.90, you can restrict merchant location to Singapore (i suggest you do that). If the comp detects new device when you insert the CA-42, most likely there's a chip inside which will work.

(2) Wires to connect to the pins. I used motherboard cables. Found a shop in SLS that sells them separately for $2. Think it's level 4 or 5, at the sides. If you observe carefully, you can bend the plastic retainers and gently pull out the wires with the metal connectors intact.

(3) TORX T6 screwdriver. Trust me, you dun have this at home... but without it, you cannot remove the PCB from the HDD. Can get it at SLS, Challenger, and perhaps DIY shops (like HomeFix/Selfix) ....etc.

Once you got them, proceed to http://sites.google.com/site/seagatefix/ for instructions.

Only difference is he uses a RS232-to-TTL device instead of CA-42 cable.

For that, you can refer to my post: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=128807&st=1000&p=841634&#entry841634

Please note: the CA-42 wire colours may not be the same as the one you bought, so you have to use the loop back test to check first.

Good luck! You'll need it! :D
