uniqlo down jacket ultra light version looks feel soo shiok light
i wonder if it can be with stand tokyo?
ehhee

as its down feather feels soo little compare to its $159 price tag version
as this ultra light version cost only $99

and iit can let u fold into a small package and put in its blunded bag inside
this is kinda cute and portable aslo
and light weight its a plus
to save weight when u go up cabin
but still need the warm jacket to keep u warm

Just came back from Tokyo. I'm using the premium down jacket from Uniqlo and still required layering to withstand the cold there.

My daughter used the light down jacket from Uniqlo during our recent trip to Tokyo & Osaka (Dec 9 - 20), where the lowest temp was 3 deg (in Osaka). She says the 3 layers did well to keep her warm. That is, (usually) a shirt then a long sleeve shirt/fleece/parka (from Uniqlo) then finally the light down jacket.

The issue we ran into weather wise, was that it was quite windy.. so the gloves we had then didn't hold on quite well (I bought a Thinsulate glove in Osaka but it didn't help much).

yah heard from friends that with Uniqlo down jacket, you would still need a fleece jacket.

Is it better to just get a very thick down jacket (is that a ski jacket?)

Well, if you already have something to get you by for a day in Tokyo, why not buy some winter wear in Tokyo? They have a lot more choices there, some really nice designs, some coming with pretty good discounts etc. Price wise, some are affordable while others are on the costly side (but I guess if you compare them with Singapore's pricing for something similar, the difference wouldn't be much).

so if this way uniqlo down jacket is not as powerful as a northface down jacket i suppose

like a uniqlo premium down jacket for $159 VS a northface jacket which cost nearly 400 or more $$

yah i rather not wear too many layers cause sometimes indoor too hot and then very troublesome to strip down so many layers.

so bor for your down jacket it works for you wearing just that and basic t inside?

ok am still hoping to get one good one and see what happens. wondering if there is any place that rents this type of down jacket. Am still hoping to go end of this month, but pending lots of stuff (leave etc).

i am not confident with anything that uniqlo singapore has for winter. the fact is that singapore has no winter. uniqlo singapore jackets are meant to be worn with serious layering. too much layering can make you look like a hobo. better to spend your money on one good jacket. especially since indoors and even trains in tokyo are heated very very well.

if you want to get a proper winter jacket, go for a winterwear brand rather than a fashion brand.

i wouldn't wear a uniqlo jacket in japan, uniqlo in japan is the equivalent of giordano in singapore. you will see some people wearing the exact same kind of jacket and it is really a jarring sight.

i know there are places in japan that sell winterwear 2nd hand, but i have never tried to look for them and i don't know their whereabouts

agreed, after seeing uniqlo jacket, not sure if they can withstand cold. I rather pay for something ie in one peice rather than do serious layering. Have been to Japan and Korea in Autumn and i had a fleece jacket from Northface but i noticed that i tend to take it off in restaurants and in trains, so imagine having to serious layering and taking it off is going to be extremely inconvenient.

my sis was wearing the premium down jacket with a wool sweater inside for our hokkaido/tohoku trip ... she looks comfortably warm to me. and i noticed tons of japanese wearing the same jacket but in different magnitude of colors though :s13:

japs isdiff fromus Asians since they r used to extemms climate
but on the end deped on ppls if they can withstand the bitter cold
my last jp trip I oly use a PVC jacket & longjohn n jeans and long sleeves normal shirt I still can endure
unless got major wind
so if I use my northface I bet I can don't wear my longjohn on top lot
just need a good glove to block wind
