He ask me to recommend which shop to purchase 16GB DDR4 RAM for his desktop. Initially I recommend him tradepac as base on my experience their price usually sells cheaper then the majority shop in SLS although about 40% of the price list were censored.

After he bought the 16GB DDR4 RAM at $275, initially was $285 being negotiate by him, I check the price list on other shop, It was worth $235 with multiple shop selling at that price except pc theme(although they put their price on the list instead of censoring their price).

I wonder if he purchase a week ago, is he possible to get back the amount being overcharged?

If he failed to recce before purchasing, is his (friend=TS) loss.

You sure it was the same ram ? Maybe you see it wrongly

Seldom see tradepac quoting a prices that is higher then what other shop is selling at. They will usually quote prices that is couple dollars lower then other shop then you can try bargain with them from there. Maybe they see your friend looks blur and newbie so they quote you a higher prices?

But then you should have check roughly what is the prices for the item by using pc themes pricelist as a rough gauge before you go down tradepac and bargain ma. So if they overcharge you you will know.

as a friend. you should have assisted him, maybe u not close with him. but u alr say he is a IT rookie. how u expect him to deal with this?

you suggested this shop KNOWING that it is shady. and didn't warn him beforehand or assisted him.

the answer would be NO refunds for the extra charges. knowing **** prata style. you won't get his $ back. just write it off and next time. Please assist him if can or let him know how much is the price he should be getting

I'm guessing he bought just DDR4 RAM and not a complete system? If so, maybe i can understand why tradepac marked up the price (note: this is NOT an excuse for what they did)

As someone in this business, what i can tell you is that the margins for DDR4 from distributors is not that much if sold at SRP (compared to other items). I have dealt with Tradepac on numerous occasions and i notice that he tends to mark up if you buy just separate parts from him, esp items with low margins like DDR4 and CPU+MB combos

275 is around the SRP for Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB Kit

After thinking about it, dunno if this story is real or not. If anyone is selling 16GB Kit ram for 235 now, i will be the first to go down and whack :s13:

Maybe u pay back the extra incurred by your friend since u recommend him that shop?

Maybe TS see wrong. Is 325 not 235 bro. Assuming that is what you see because there is no 235 on pricelist?

Some forumers (even some mods) are sacarstic. But can be ignored. No point arguing or having the last say in forums.

Back to TS, willing seller willing buyer. Treat it as lesson learnt.

That is why, take it as a lesson. Always check prices at every single source available.

Be it Carousell where some SLS shops/legitimate online shops sells PC components too.
As well as look into individual SLS shops Facebook for their Pricelist so you can check how each individual shop prices compare.
And most importantly, on online sites such as Qoo10, Lazada, Amazon, etc. to also check on the same or even alternative products from local sellers.
And finally at SLS, you can still walk around a bit to check on shops that you couldn't find on any of the other platforms.

Then if you go down to the intended shop finally, at least you know what was the lowest value that you can find elsewhere therefore if the shop quotes a lower price, congratulations, you've got an even better deal than all the other prices that you saw elsewhere, else, you can return to the next shop/platform where you last saw the lowest price.

So honestly, no one else to blame but the misinformed buyer themselves.
