connecting xiaomi phone via HDMI cable?

what sort of cable to use for a mi6?

I have an MHL cable and found out it doesn't connect any of my android phones to the tv.

Should be able to, according to GSMArena.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 has no FM radio. There is no audio jack either, but Xiaomi provides a proper USB-C-to-analog jack adapter.

The USB port is Type-C but we can't confirm whether it's 2.0 or 3.x. Still, it lets you hook up USB storage and accessories and charge other devices.

You're right. HDMI out from USB is not part of the USB standard. MHL is only supported on phones with MHL, Slimport is only supported on phones with Slimport. The Xiaomi one claims to support MacBook and Xiaomi smartphones.
