Step 1: pull out the power
Step 2: press ok + back button
Step 3: plug in the power
Step 4: wait for unit to boot up
Step 5: saw Xiaomi logo appear. Mi logo disappear after 3 secs. After 3 secs, appear again. It keeps cycle like this on and on

For my case, didn’t manage to see the recovery menu.

The only thing I am unsure is whether the remote is working. I am sure I put in new batteries but can’t check whether the remote is paired or not. Nothing seems to work when I press anything on the remote. Before the box has problem, it is working

Anyone flash mibox China to global rom?
After flashing, I understand cannot downgrade back.

But can it be reset? Like wiping off data but still stay on global rom.

It is not possible. They have different HW.

For example, Mi Box 4 (China version) uses S905L CPU and Mi Box S (Global version) uses S905X CPU. The WiFi and Bluetooth chipset might not be the same as well.

Review of China version Mi Box 4 (MDZ-21-AA) and 4C (MDZ-20-AA).

Most importantly, even if you just want to install Google servicrs, you need to root the box in order to install. I am not so sure if there is already hacks to root Mi Box 4 and 4c yet. Previously there were hacks to root China versions of Mi Box 3S and 3 Enhanced version and some older boxes. And then install Google stuff on the box.

MDZ-16-AB-(International version) and MDZ-22-AB (Mi Box S), 2GB RAM/8GB storage/chipset-Amlogic S905X-H Quad core/chromecast ultra built-in/google playstore

MDZ-18-AA-(Mi Box 3 Enhanced) 2 GB RAM /8GB storage/Chipset- MT8693 Hexa 6 Core/no google playstore

MDZ-19-AA-(Mi Box 3S) 2GB RAM/8GB storage/chipset-Amlogic S905X-H Quad core/no google playstore

step 2 is wrong. should press and hold the 2 buttons and do not release.

try again, if still cannot work, I have another version which includes the paring of remote.

someone has done it on mibox3 and mibox3 enhanced. however, there are issues:

1. chromecast not working,
2. no netflix certification,
3. usb port not working.

no1 and no2 are the reasons for using global rom.

if these 2 are not working, might as well stay in original rom, and change the UI to english.

Yes. I press both buttons and it doesn’t work. Can share the method which includes pairing of remote? Suspect my remote is not paired

confirm you press and hold, or you just press and let go?

This is the impression I got from reading your message.

Press and hold all the way

1. switch off the tv using the switch on wall socket.

2. take out the battery from the remote control, press and hold [ok] and [back] button, and reinsert the battery, do not remove the 2 keys while reinserting the battery, and continue to hold the 2 keys. make sure that the remote control is close to tv.

3. turn on the switch at the wall socket.

4. release the 2 buttons if you see recovery menu.

5. if after 30 sec you still cannot see the recovery menu, repeat step 1.

get a helper to do step 2 and step 3, to make sure that the 2 buttons are pressed and hold properly.

Anyone know if update to Android 9 will affect CNA app to be streamed on STB?

https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-tv-stick-mi-band-5-truly-wireless-earbuds-europe/

The Mi Stick TV is a small dongle with a quad-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage. As we saw with the product listing, this model supports 1080p video output and Dolby and DTS surround sound. It runs Android TV based on Android Pie. Xiaomi is pricing the stick at just €39.99 (~$50) in Europe, which is considerably cheaper than similar products on the market.

This one is a low end 1GB version with 1080p only. In this case, Mi Box S is not yet obsolete as it supports 4K.

Edit to add:
https://m.aliexpress.com/item/4001121803265.html?trace=wwwdetail2mobilesitedetail

Offer price is US$30 now for the 1080p Mi TV Stick.

Anyone bought?

Quite a few people bought this Mi TV Stick 1080p version already in the Facebook Group "TV Box SG". You can join the group and check the feedbacks.

Just sharing...

Today (Wed 22/7), Qoo10 has a $10 off discount coupon -- which you can collect at this link below:
https://www.qoo10.sg/supersale

This Qoo10 $10 off discount coupon is valid to use till 25/7.

You can use this $10 off coupon when buying the Xiaomi 4K Mi Box S selling at $70.

After applying the $10 coupon, the new Xiaomi 4K Mi Box S will only cost ($70 - $10) = $60 + FREE delivery.

$60 is quite a cheap price for new Xiaomi 4K Mi Box S (+ delivery included).

IMHO (In My Humble Opinion), $60 to get new Xiaomi 4K Mi Box S (2GB + 8GB) -- is a better buy -- than the 1080p Xiaomi Mi TV stick (w/ 1GB RAM only).

Yes I agree that S$60 is a very good price for Mi Box S. And I also agree it is a better value than the Mi TV Stick 1080p if Mi Box S is in the price range of S$60-70.

I got my Mi Box S from Lazada, for my first and the only purchase in Lazada, at S$61 due to new user offer. Normally I got my stuff from local physical store or Taobao. But Mi Box S is cheaper here in local online stores than in Taobao or local physical store.
