Companies that do not adopt sustainable business strategies can expect less investment as shareholders grow more focused on topics like climate change, BlackRock Inc CEO Laurence Fink said.... https://www.thewealthadvisor.com/ar...Y1dRWLl5_HdEMrVN0wk8iD2fTP2puL-3SI-u-hg_y4ZYw

Bitcoin and esg?
The sheer amount of energy needed to mine Bitcoin and the prospect that governments will create more obstacles for the largest cryptocurrency point to the token losing “most of its value over time,” BCA Research Inc. said.
The expense and slowness of Bitcoin transactions make it “unsuitable as a medium of exchange,” BCA Research Chief Global Strategist Peter Berezin wrote in the report released Friday.
In addition, environmental, social and governance-focused funds are likely to shun companies associated with Bitcoin due to the large energy consumption by miners on computer networks.
Bitcoin is still up more than five times over the past year, a divisive rally pitting believers in a new asset class against naysayers who see a speculative bubble. Among notable recent developments are Tesla’s US$1.5 billion purchase of the token. At the same time, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen are among those signaling caution.

Constraints faced by esg investing now....

First and foremost, researching ESG compliant companies can get complicated, as a transparent, consistent and standardised means of comparison is still not there yet.
You will also have to dig deep and look beyond annual reports and sustainability reports to suss out whether a company is really a company that takes ESG.

Also, there is not a strong correlation between companies with strong ESG performance and the success of the companies.

If the tech stocks (into esg) do badly like during the recent September US stock market sell-off and the sustainable Vanguard ESG U.S. Stock ETF crashed; it does not mean that ESG as an investing strategy is has failed.

Neither does it mean that good ESG performance is good for growth.
Ultimately, you will need to manage your expectations when engaging in ESG Investing.
You have to be prepared to deal with lower returns from your investments in exchange for positive overall outcomes in society and the world
Although investing in ESG assets can be risky, it still has a big positive impact on society.

Stshwy wil introduce 2 new ESG ETFs:

iShares ESG Aware MSCI USA ETF
iShares ESG Aware MSCI Emerging Markets ETF

This means that StashAway’s investment algorithm will now be able to choose from a pool of ETFs that also includes the 2 ESG ETFs above. So, you might not see the ESG ETFs in your portfolio straight away, but they may be included in your next portfolio re-optimisation. These ETFs will complement our existing portfolios, enhancing our sustainability scores while maintaining a strong focus on risk-adjusted returns.

.......This move is illustrated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS)’s commitment in 2019 to invest US$2 billion to establish Singapore as a global hub for sustainability and green finance.
This was followed by the nation’s October 2020 launch of the Singapore Green Finance Centre, a public-private partnership led by the MAS to develop a sustainable investing ecosystem in Asia, contributing towards the its sustainability blueprint, Singapore Green Plan 2030.

The results of an Endowus survey of over 1,100 participants in Singapore have highlighted the fact that the nation’s drive towards sustainable investing is aligned with investor sentiment as there is strong and growing demand for more ESG investing options in Singapore.
Yet while results indicate that ESG investing resonates with over 93 percent of respondents, only 28 percent currently hold any ESG funds. (58 percent of respondents acknowledge a lack in their own understanding or knowledge of ESG investing, while 43 percent pointed to a lack of good available options as a key hindrance)

DBS Private Bank aims to have more than 50% of AUM in sustainable investments by 2023

https://www.theedgesingapore.com/ne...y1st0D5XO7Apd9bN5zovAnVAPwzhvOZ6ecr6AjszbzExM

The bank says it defines sustainable investments as those rated BBB and above, based on MSCI ESG Ratings.

In addition, it will formalise how ESG is assessed through the launch of a portfolio-weighted ESG rating methodology in 2Q2021, the first initiative of its kind in Asia.

take the lead just like dbs - “We decided to take the lead in challenging this status quo, and were among the first in Asia to integrate MSCI ESG ratings into our product suite. By taking this step, we are not only availing greater transparency of our offerings, but are also holding ourselves accountable to our pledge to boost our share of sustainable investments,” adds Poon.

According to a just-published report in collaboration with PwC China, environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting in China is seeing a surge in activity from regulators, investors and corporate leaders.

The white paper, A Leapfrog Moment for China in ESG Reporting, was released on 25 March by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

“Having experienced increasing demands for ESG reporting from investors, as well as several years of ESG reporting requirements from the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX), China’s listed companies are increasingly familiar with both the challenges and benefits of ESG reporting,” the report states.
