Anyone into keeping historical old gold coins from Europe such as 20 francs, marks, lire, etc? Find a lot of their detail very nice and may consider keeping 1 from each country.
I'll recommend you can read up some books about collection gold coins with numismatic values, its very different from collecting just modern gold coins.
Some of the difference between them:
1. Usually you pay a lot more than the gold content it holds compare to gold bullion. But if you can get them as cheap as bullion then its another story.
2. Its usually not .999 pure and has no gold content shown on the coin, means you need more knowledge when buying/selling normally.
3. Value of coin depends largely on its condition compare to bullion.
Personally I have a few century old US gold coins certified by PCGS. I can only say its very different from collecting modern gold coins so you have to do some homework.
Just make sure you are doing something you enjoy, in my humble opinion thats the most important thing in coin collecting, don't just listen to what others say because what works for other people might not be for you.
Cheers
