ASUS Official Statement

Please read on for our official statement:
(Post here again for clarity)

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 graphics cards come with exclusive GPU Tweak II software, that provides silent, gaming, and OC modes allowing users to select a performance profile that suits their requirements. Users can apply these modes easily from within GPU Tweak II.

The press samples for the ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 OC and ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1070 OC cards are set to “OC Mode” by default. To save media time and effort, OC mode is enabled by default as we are well aware our graphics cards will be reviewed primarily on maximum performance. And when in OC mode, we can showcase both the maximum performance and the effectiveness of our cooling solution.

Retail products are in “Gaming Mode” by default, which allows gamers to experience the optimal balance between performance and silent operation. We encourage end-users to try GPU Tweak II and adjust between the available modes, to find the best mode according to personal needs or preferences.

For both the press samples and retail cards, all these modes can be selected through the GPU Tweak II software. There are no differences between the samples we sent out to media and the retail channels in terms of hardware and performance.

Sincerely,
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.

Asus not only premium branding/components/cooling/RGB but also premium on-the-ball PR :D

If Cheryl can reply consumer complaints at 6pm on a Friday evening, there may be hope that we can see Strix 1080/1070s at SLS stores tomorrow noon :D

Kinda obvious, 2nd page post about MSI beat Asus Strix and now this. :s13:

We can't stop user from hijacking the thread. So just for sharing since i think everyone might know about it.

Quote from the same source:

When compared to the regular reference models that come from nVidia's headquarters the Founders Edition was a statement of intent which took a lot of the features partners have introduced and applied them to their own model. It was seriously impressive. In fact we were slightly doubtful that the partner manufacturers could find sufficient extra performance to bring their product into sharp relief, but the ASUS Strix laughs in the face of such notions and sets about decimating our graphs with a sledgehammer of power and performance.

It's not merely the 1080 performance that impresses though. Yes it might still be the resolution of choice for the majority of gamers but this is a high-end card aimed at the high-end market with all their 4K screens and VR capabilities. It's in those scenarios where the ASUS Strix really shines, as it's probably the first card to make 4K gameplay a serious possibility on a single-GPU. Sure it's not going to give you the smoothness of a lower resolution, but neither is it a slideshow any more. Combine high quality power components with a cooler capable of keeping temperatures low and you have a recipe for some extraordinary boost clock speeds and the results that follow such high ratings. Any latest nVidia GPU is bound to make your eyes pop, but when it's the latest nVidia GPU running at a barely believable 2.1GHz then it's not a surprise to see even the most strenuous titles bending before its will.

It's really easy to live with too. Sure the low power draw makes your electricity bill more tolerable, and yes with those low temperatures you have less heat to disperse, but it isn't at the cost of your ears. The cooler is magnificent, capable of keeping the card cool whilst never becoming a whiny blur in your case. We can't be the only people who've owned graphics cards that were so loud we thought twice about playing particular titles, yet the Strix has no such issues. It looks the part too, with a backplate that has as much thought placed into the design as the front. With the AURA lighting control in place you can have any shade you like, without compromise and, as we saw in our lighting photographs on page four, it looks spectacular. RGB is splitting the market at the moment but this is the first GPU we have seen with it implemented and implemented properly, a stealthy theme where the lighting is purely there to let you choose your colour accents. Perfect.

There isn't a single weakness in the ASUS GTX 1080 Strix package. It's cool, quiet and devastatingly powerful, and easily wins our OC3D Performance Award.

Benchmark result on performance.

Another review from other top media:
Source: https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GTX_1080_STRIX/29.html

Quote:
Just like on the reference design, power efficiency is amazing, with huge improvements over the Maxwell architecture that is already highly efficient in the first place. However, it looks as though ASUS traded some efficiency for more performance, which isn't unreasonable. Compared to the reference design, we see about 30 W more power draw in gaming, which is less than on other custom variants we reviewed so far because ASUS has set the board power limit to 200 W only, which I find a bit low given the 8+6 power inputs can handle at least 300 W. Such an approach would have provided extra headroom for Boost 3.0 to boost higher for longer while ensuring overclocks don't run into the power limit.

Another novelty on the ASUS STRIX is that ASUS has replaced one of the three DP outputs of the reference design with an HDMI port. This brings the number of HDMI outputs to two, which, according to ASUS, was done to let people connect a VR headset and a TV at the same time, or two VR headsets. On the other hand, it does mean that you can no longer run three G-Sync monitors in surround (G-Sync requires DisplayPort, adapters won't work). Given both of these configurations are very rare, I have no opinion on which configuration is better; feel free to share your thoughts on it in the comments section of this review.

ASUS has also added two fan headers on their card, which can be used with case fans to run them at the same speed as the graphics card. They include the idle-fan-off feature too, so this should be a simple way to reduce the noise levels of your system - case fans stopped while not gaming and overall heat output is low. Once you start gaming and the graphics card starts putting out heat, the case fans will start turning as well to ensure hot air goes out of your case; I like it.

Damn, you are doing god's work for ASUS atm. your constant communication with us in the forum is really surprising and promising. I've decided to go with ASUS this time round again because of the wonderful experience I had RMA-ing my 960 with Ban Leong. with that said, We are all eagerly looking forward to the stocks in SLS to arrive :D

Any updates on stocks? Best is if we could get a specific/estimate date instead of telling us soon. :s11:

Did you guys factor in shipment cost for the distro?

What about cost to do warranty servicing and RMA where they have to incur shipment again?

Bro you are responding to which post? We were all talking about release date and availability of the ROG Strix. Unless you are explaining on the premium cost of Asus boards discussed earlier. But when you talk about shipment/RMA costs, it applies to every other board maker as well, not only Asus. All the board makers are based overseas, even the smaller companies like Palit and Zotac. The only difference is that Asus GPUs are now all fully automated-ly produced.

For a card that is automated-ly produced, Asus is taking quite some time to release their cards. other cards seem to get in stock in batches of 10. Is Asus looking to release over 30 per store or something?
