Is there a 'rule' as to what is cheaper for contractor to get, what is cheaper to ownself source? Not counting those taobao sourced fixtures that is.

There is i believe if the supplier is located locally..Things like overlay, tiles since they have supplier in SG..

My contractor has previously nv use Kompacplus for his clients although they did came by to promote their products few years back until i ask him to help me check out the prices..He got in touch with them, got the prices and the samples and pass them to me.

Carpentry, electricity works, piping i believe can source individual ppl to do the job. But time consuming and also the coordination which you have to do.

For those still in negotiation stage, please ask the contractor how many drawers they include, is it soft closing hinges etc. Can he upgrade to softclosing hinges anot.

Coz we were charged additional for the hinges and drawers for kitchen, we used blum so was charged additional for all drawers and hinges but other areas we kenna also even though the hinges were not from blum. was caught by surprise because soft closing hinges seem like the norm nowadays but my contractor did not throw in as freebies but took this opportunity to chop additional carrot out of us zzzz.

so far i ask all the ids i met they all mention soft closing is the norm already, if dun wan soft closing its hard to find also.

Blum is not ex anymore.
No point to get China soft closing.

My colleague experience worst
She requested and paid for Blum

End up the contractor installed all China soft closing. Reason being Blum cannot fit.

Wtf. These are all custom made cabinets, wtf is cannot fit.

End up contactor still say he install soft closing for her foc.

Main door need fire rated doors.
Fire rated doors start at 2k, I no budget so I change the main lock nia
Fire rated doors have different ratings too, 30'mins, 1hr, 2hrs

If you go to those reno forums you'd most likely heard of them, I guess younger generation taking over business tend to have more aggressive online presence, even for other trades (flowers, car tyres, you name it). Siong Door is pretty well known for group buys for their solid veneer doors deals with many of the new HDB BTOs.

Jay looks young actually, like some late 20s kid (yeah my age I can call him "kid" ). He's not always at the shop, if he isn't then you will be attended to by Pinay or ATB, and it's fine if you're just there for viewing, but if you need to discuss real business and / or you have special requirements you need to cham siong with them, you'd want to speak to Jay directly ... the Pinays and ATB are very inflexible and hard to talk to some times.

I remember HDB did free upgrade for all some years back

Got new fire-rated main door
after fixing they came to varnish-stain n consulted us on level of darkness there
and also fixed that top door-hinge thingy (to prevent door slamming)
