Hi.
Is this combinations ok?
OPTION 1 : FM, MA, MM, ME
OPTION 2 : FR, MA, MM, ME
or i shall leave MA/FR to year 3 with Audit?

I would recommend you to take FR with Audit. Although you will be heavy on theory, BUT you can use some IAS standards and IFRS standards for giving your Audit answers extra boost.

But its up to you, lots of people didn't have FR knowledge before taking Audit.

Hey guys,

I am thinking of choosing Managerial Econs over MSM and HRM, and I need some advice on taking ME even though I am weak at maths. Would love to hear insights about ME and whether it's the right choice since I'm also trying to score well for ME too.
Reason why I wouldn't want to take MSM is that I feel it wouldn't be useful, and the stricter marking criteria would probably kill me.

Thanks!

If you are weak in math, i suggest u dont choose ME. I rather u choose MSM.

In ME, there are A LOT of differentiation, probabilities that you have to solve. I dont want you to end up doing essay/theory for ME as it is even harder to score. This year's paper is easy. I am not sure if they will up the difficulty trend for next year.

MSM is strict, but they are all simple math. As long as you can press the calculator, use abit of logic to understand the concept, and be more meticulous in your workings, it shouldn't be a problem.

I dont know anything about HRM.

Hi :)
Would really appreciate it if anyone who has taken Mathematical Econs before share what this module is about and the level of difficulty(Eg. easy for examiners to set hard questions etc.). Also, is it is easily possible to get an A grade for Mathematical Econs if my math 2 grade is a high A or are there other factors as well?
Those who have gotten an A grade for Mathematical Econs pls share if the subject guide and doing past year papers diligently would be enough to get an A grade. Please recommend good leturers as well.

Also, would it be wiser to choose industrial econs instead of mathematical econs?
Thanks!

Yes. I was a banking and finance student and I have taken both mathematical economics and industrial economics in my final year as my lvl 300 elective mods. This module requires a lot of knowledge on basic calculus which you have already learn it in maths 1 and 2.In addition, you are also require to learn some of the mathematical definition and apply it. Yes the past year papers are very useful. To get an A for this module, I believe the best strategy is to focus on section B which is 60% of the entire score. Another strategy to score A is to focus on the chapters at the back. As for section A, usually there will be one question that requires basic knowledge on differential equation. This is perhaps the easiest question to score in the entire paper (not guarantee though). There is only one lecturer and only one time slot. You don't get to choose. If you are very good in maths 2, I would strongly recommend take mathematical econs. I hope this helps. If u need me to give u advice, U can PM me for my contact number.

I took Sunny Goh for my OTIA, would say he's quite a good lecturer, constantly making the lecture enjoyable and less dry.
However, this module is quite heavy in content, if you took principle of sociology, it will help you a little.
Hi,

Thanks for your feedback!
Could I ask though: How did you find the content and how did you cope with this module as a whole?

Thanks Once Again!

Hi,

I am thinking between taking one of E- Biz, POM and OTIA for this year.
Could someone who have taken any of these subjects provide some insights to how they are?
Also, which lecturers are recommended for these courses?

(P.S: Am Currently an Econs and Management Student)

Thanks!
Bump for more advice!

Bump for more advice!

I only took OTIA before as it's my core module till UOL changed the degree structure.

I believed there's only 1 OTIA lecturer in SIM (Sunny Goh). I would say that OTIA is basically management theory revolving around 3 theorists (Economists, Psychologists and Sociologists). I would say that the content is heavy. For example transaction cost, normally, it will require you to explain the economists view, psychologists view and sociologists view and then you stand point?

I can't really say much as I barely pass that module, too heavy for my pea-sized brain.. T-T Sunny is good as he will tell you how to answer questions in examination and keep the lecture interesting with that super dry module. :D

PM me if you are doing OTIA, could pass you the notes (although I'm not too sure if it'll helps). :D

I was an E&M student as well and newly graduated! I took Quek for Ebiz and personally, his slides (lecture notes) are a little too simplified. I read and researched on examples on my own, wrote essays consistently. I scored an A for it, even though Quek said it is difficult to. I would recommend William for Ebiz as I took him for ISORG. He's an extremely kind lecturer with comprehensive notes and readings (I believe his notes are as comprehensive for ebiz).

For OTIA, it's compulsory for E&M students. I feel that it's manageable. Honestly, I only studied for it from prelims onwards and scored a 68 in finals. (I think it's actually possible to score an A). The format is choose 4 out of 11 questions so it's quite possible to skip a couple of chapters..but questions may combine topics at times.

Option 2:
Yr2:Fm,Fr,MM,ME
Yr3:Ma,Audit,algebra

Thank you.

Option 1
Year 2: FM, MM (retake), FR (retake), Algebra (other elective module to replace this module like ebiz and isorg if you haven taken it before)
Year 3: Audit, MA, ME (retake)

OR

Option 2
Year 2: Audit, FR (retake), MM (retake), Algebra (other elective module to replace this module like ebiz and isorg if you haven taken it before)

Year 3: MA, ME (retake), FM

If I were you I will go for my suggested Option 1, since MM and Algebra are both maths related modules. Also, Audit module will be better to take in Year 3. If choose Option 2, your Year 3 will be heavy since MA and FM modules are taken together.
