SINGAPORE (Oct 28): Sheng Siong's 3Q results may have come in line with analyst expectations, but the company's outlook remains bleak at best, with UOB Kay Hian and Maybank Kim Eng maintaining their "hold" rating on the stock.

UOB Kay Hian's analysts Jonathan Leow and Andrew Chow noted that the group's revenue rose just 1.2% to $202.4 million for the quarter to Sept, from new stores. What concerned the pair was the underlying 1.15% decline in same-store sales, which reflected a "weak operating environment and intense competition".

It depends on which analysts you decide to believe. DBS is optimistic on the performance of Sheng Siong and maintained a BUY for the share at target price of $1.19. https://www.dbs.com.sg/treasures/aics/templatedata/article/equity/data/en/DBSV/012014/SSG_SP.xml

OCBC also maintained BUY at $1.15.

I am probably gonna keep holding but not adding.....

The delay in the setting up of the Kunming store is definitely a negative.....not easy doing business in the competitive China market :( I believe part of the price premium is linked to the China expansion

It's only delayed, not scrapped. Nothing much has changed for long term holders, of which I believe SS has many. Just hope they don't announce further delay in the next report.

Might have more downward pressure in the short term as traders who were banking on China leave for greener pastures. But I believe downside to be limited as investors seek safe havens in defensive plays now more than ever :)

would that have an impact over retail supermarkets?:s39:

Probably limited impact in the short-term.....

But please note that there are strong rumours of Amazon gearing up to enter the local e-commerce market next year...
