Hello everybody,

Does anyone's MBP have the screen coating wear off issue? As such:

I just found out recently. This device was purchased in around 3rd Q of 2015. Not sure if Apple Singapore covers the repair?

Thanks

I use a screen protector on my mid 2015 MBP since the first day I bought it so no issues. Read somewhere that some batches of MBP suffer from this issue. Take it to Apple Store's Genius Bar for a check.

Staingate

Google the forum for other threads on this.... It has been discussed before.

And the reason why I am now looking around for a microfiber cloth to use when I close the lid.

All Retina screens will have the problem, up to the Macbook 2015. No idea about thise released late last year. The only way of avoiding the problem is to apply a screen protector that fits nicely.

I got worse screen peeling than you before. Replaced my screen 4 times over 3 years because of staingate. All covered under applecare but I did at alab. The anti reflective coating is fragile af.

Hi folks,

For the 2015 MacBook Pro 13 inch, anyone know any local shops (other than MacShop) currently have stock for the microfibre screen protector like the RadTech one?

TIA!

Wah what happened?

The cloth is not that thin so it actually rub against the screen more than without one. I currently have a cheap screen protector applied and I use blank A4 paper to put it between the screen and keyboard so that my keyboard protector wont come into contact with the screen and dirty it. Can easily replace the A4 paper lol.

Does the screen protector reduce the enjoyment of the retina screen? :p

Hmmm, anyone have experience with the Radtech one?

It certainly adds more reflections compared to without a screen protector. If you view the screen head on and the ambient lighting is not very bright you won't notice a difference in clarity/enjoyment. But if I use in open daylight at 6/16 brightness control, the people sitting beside me have trouble looking due to the reflections and I have to bump up the brightness.

I believe Radtech will be quite similar to Shaggymax since the thickness is 0.45mm-0.65mm and 0.6mm respectively.

TBH, i dont think they really fixed the coating issue yet but they are just replacing the screen panels out of goodwill?

i changed mine once, but i kinda feel that the original coating will still wear out in 1-2 years, especially if you are those who constantly wipe the screen due to dust or 'your saliva stains'.

anyway some tips to maintain the screen:
- dont keep any keyboard protector when you shut the lid
- try not to apply any palm guard
- use only the apple microfiber cloth to wipe the screen rather than tissue / dont use any liquid on the screen

I share the same sentiments too.. The coating use by apple while it's good at reducing reflections it's not durable in the long run. I doubt they made enhancements to the coating on the macbook 12 inch or macbook pro 2016 or later.

I'm going to Apple store for replacement tomorrow.
For replacing just the display, are they gonna wipe off my SDD?
