Any aircon guru here?
I installed piping for my LG 5 ticks aircon. It was 9k + 9k + 9k + 18k.
If upgrade into 12k + 12k + 12k + 24k, will it be better?
I meant I am using the original piping installed weeks ago for the upgraded one.

I heard 9k and 12k shared the same piping size so it is ok to upgrade.
But i heard 18k and 24k pipings are different. Thus 24k will be working like 18k.

Higher indoor BTU cools the room faster but that is provided that your outdoor unit is able to support. For example if the outdoor only supports up to 30K BTU, you can most probably switch on 3 x 12K indoor units at 1 time or 1 x 12K indoor units + 1 x 24K indoor units. This is unless you are installing a 2 separate system.

As for the piping size, I can see based on LG website, the existing LG models use 6.35mm (1/4 inch) liquid and 9.52mm (3/8 inch) gas for 9K and 12K BTU units and 6.35mm (1/4 inch) liquid and 12.7mm (1/2 inch) gas for 18K and 24K units so basically the pipings can be used. Your installer will be the best person to advice.

Pipings that are too big will result in insufficient gas compression and might trigger alarm code. Pipings that are too small has insufficient gas flow so indoor will not cool optimally.

Thanks for the explanation. Apparently everything is the same except cooling capacity. Salesman and installer also half bucket of water. :s13::s13:
Noise level increased from 37dBA to 42dBA

Hi all,

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask, sorry if posted in the wrong thread.

Bought a second hand system 3 Aircon after my old one died. After installation I feel like the area in front of the Aircon feels colder (due to air flow direction directly) and other parts of the room feels like not covered. The temperature feels different at the other parts of the room. I don’t recall having this issue with my old Aircon, the entire room temperature feels constant.

Any idea what is the issue ? The room is at most 4m by 4m.

Thank you.

Several possibilities, might want to check on the BTU of your new indoor unit and compare it to the BTU of your older unit. See if it is a smaller BTU? Supposedly for a 4m x 4m room, 9KBTU should be sufficient however if the heat load of your room is high example morning/afternoon sun, aircon installed near to spot lights etc you might need a higher BTU indoor to cool the room effectively.

Another would be that the unit is dirty. Might want to take a look at the filters and wash them. When the unit is dirty you will usually feel that the air blowing directly from the unit is very cold but room cannot be cooled.

If this is just installed, you might want have your installer back to do a check.

This would depend on your room size, usage and the environmental factor such as design, morning/afternoon sun etc. For most BTO, 9K BTU is sufficient to support the bedrooms. Some might opt to install 12K in the MBR and 18-24K BTU for the living area.

Your appointed installer will be the best person to advice the BTU matching after looking at your floor plans.

Definitely 24k.
9k in bedrooms can easily fetch you lower temperature than 24k in living room.
